DeKalb water main break: School, business and office closings


major water main break in Doraville early Wednesday morning has left much of DeKalb County without water or with low water pressure. The break has impacted schools and businesses across the county, with many of them closing for the day. 

Here’s the rundown on county closings:

Schools

  • Decatur City Schools are closed
  • DeKalb County Schools are releasing students early 
  • Emory University’s main campus closed at 10 a.m., and will reopen at 5 p.m. The Yerkes Gwinnett and Oxford College campuses remain open.
  • Agnes Scott College has closed
  • Georgia State University’s Clarkston and Dunwoody campuses closed at 10 a.m.
  • Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s DeKalb campus and Starnes Center are closed. The South DeKalb Campus will remain open

Government

  • DeKalb County government offices in downtown Decatur are closed and without water
  • DeKalb County Courthouse, including the Board of Equalization and Clerk of Superior Court, closed at noon 
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is closed
  • DeKalb County Public Library system  - all branches are closed Wednesday
  • Veterans Administration's Regional Benefit Office in Decatur is closed
  • All Center for Disease Control and Prevention campuses were closed Wednesday and will be closed again Thursday. The “We Were There” event has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
  • All locations of the DeKalb County Board of Health are closed
  • City of Clarkston offices and municipal courts are closed
  • City of Dunwoody offices and municipal court are closed
  • Brookhaven City Hall is closed. An evening Planning Commission work session and meeting are also canceled.

Businesses

  • Perimeter Mall is closed until water pressure returns
  • Emory Healthcare is closing many of its DeKalb County clinic locations
  • DeKalb Medical Wellness Center on North Decatur Road is closed
  • Several county restaurants, particularly in the Decatur area are closed
