Atlanta ordinance would ban booting of cars on private property

A proposed City of Atlanta ordinance would ban booting or using other means to immobilize vehicles on private property.

The ordinance declares that booting is "a blight on the City that negatively impacts businesses and tourism by creating significant uncertainty regarding where citizens may safely park their vehicles, leads to confrontation amongst private citizens, and unnecessarily drains public resources."

It also says that booting is being used in ways the city never contemplated and cites the example of homeowners' associations employing booting to collect unpaid fees. The ordinance would not affect the city's ability to boot cars.

The ordinance cleared the City Council Public Health and Legal Administration Committee on Tuesday and will move to the full council for a vote Monday.
