Hanukah with the Atlanta Hawks: Join the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta's young adults (21-40 years of age) for a night out as the Atlanta Hawks take on the Washington Wizards at the State Farm Arena (1 State Farm Drive, Atlanta). The Hawks will kick off the game with a Hanukah candle lighting. Participation is $35 and includes a ticket to the game, $10 food and beverage voucher and throwback Hawks bobblehead. Nativity exhibit: An exhibit of over 300 nativity scenes from around the world will feature elegant to eccentric pieces as well as birth scenes sculpted in materials ranging from carved wood to volcanic ash. There will also a special exhibit of nativity scenes that highlight the differences between the birth story as told in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew. Each of these nativities is accompanied by scriptural quotes and hymn texts. Admission is $5 and free for children under 12 years old. Open to all. Exhibition times will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15; 2-4 p.m. Dec. 9 and 16; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 10, 12 and 14. Lessons in catechesis: Explore the life and work of St. Augustine through the special lens of catechesis, taught by Christopher Wells, Ph.D., a church historian and executive director of the Living Church Institute. Holiday market: Local artists will offer painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry, knitting, woodwork, gourmet foods and more during a holiday market. A portion of sales will support the Guild of Ten Talents, the church's art program. Free and open to all. Noon-4 p.m. Dec. 9. Sounds of the season: The adult choir, accompanied by an organ, chamber orchestra and interspersed with Scripture reading and prayer, will present Small Dancing Light during an Advent worship service. The musical performance is a work for voices and instruments from the baroque era. It includes six original texts and three congregational hymns which focus on the themes of anticipation and revelation. Images of these themes are presented through each of the texts.
