Cultural concert: The concert, Sankofa: A Salute to the Music of Black Composers, will showcase artful songs and spiritual arrangements of opera singers from the Atlanta Opera Chorus and Capital City Opera as well as music educators. The event will be a celebration of voice and heritage with a reception to follow. The performance will be based on one guiding principle — sankofa, which is a Ghanaian Twi word that translates to "we have to go back to get something in order to go forward." Book discussion: If you're hungry for a good read and lively discussion, join a monthly book club for conversation and more. This month's discussion will focus on "Beartown" by Fredrik Backman. Lenten fish fry: St. Benedict Catholic Church will host a fish fry dinner every Friday during Lent. The menu will feature fried cod, baked tilapia, french fries, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce, iced tea, lemonade and cookies. Dinner will be $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12 years old or $30 maximum for immediate family members. Chowder and specialty desserts will be available for $2 each. Free concert: Feiner Musicke, a husband and wife team with Mel Foster, tenor, and Ellen Heinicke Foster, harp, will perform "Art Songs of the Early 20th Century: Music of Hope and Love" featuring inspirational music from the traditions of Europe and America. A reception will follow the concert. Both events will be free and open to all, however visitors can contribute to a freewill offering. 4 p.m. March 4. Community lecture: Diana Butler Bass, author, speaker and theologian, will host a Lenten season community lecture. Her 10th book, "Grateful: The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks" will be published April 3. Free and open to all, but reservations are required. Email DBBassEvent@gmail.com by March 7.
