Learn to make Farmview Market’s Chocolate Buttermilk Pie

We have a group in Providence Club in Monroe that gets together every Friday night. We bring a dish to share. I would love the recipe for Chocolate Buttermilk Pie from the Farmview Market in Madison, so I can share with my friends. — Jeanette Jimenez, Monroe

Laura Rotroff of Farmview Market sent us the recipe for this delicious pie. Don’t expect the smooth texture of a traditional buttermilk pie. This one has a bit of texture to the filling. But it’s about as easy as any pie could ever be, and delicious to boot.

When “Cheese Balls: 40 Celebratory and Cheese-Licious Recipes” by Dena Rayess (Chronicle Books, $16.95) landed on my desk recently, I burst out...
Pretzels: All tied up in knots
Pretzels: All tied up in knots

To lye or not to lye? That is the question when you’re making pretzels. On the one hand, lye gives pretzels their distinctive flavor, kind of a sharp flatness, if that makes sense. It’s what keeps a pretzel from tasting like pretzel-shaped bread. On the other hand, lye is ridiculously dangerous. It will burn you if it gets on your skin...
