Live music picks

FRIDAY

Jennifer Nettles

For Douglas native Nettles, an Atlanta concert is tantamount to a hometown show, which is one of the reasons she opted to launch her Playing With Fire tour here. The singer-songwriter-actress also said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week that the “sonic fullness” of her second solo record — also called “Playing With Fire” and due in the spring — will allow for “visual fullness” in her live show.

With Brandy Clark and Ryan Kinder. 8 p.m. Oct. 23. $46.50-$66.50. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

SATURDAY

Mark Knopfler

The former Dire Straits leader is coming to the end of a worldwide tour that began in May in Dublin and has crisscrossed the U.S. since September. The singer-guitarist, 66, and his band will lean heavily on Knopfler’s latest solo album, “Tracker,” which arrived in March. But fans also will hear popular selections from Dire Straits’ noteworthy catalog, including “Sultans of Swing” and “So Far Away.”

8 p.m. Oct. 24. $41-$81. Chastain Park Amphitheatre, 4469 Stella Drive N.W., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

Taylor Swift

Let’s see … who might Swift bring onstage in Atlanta, since that guessing game has become a nightly ritual on her 1989 tour? A “Real Housewives” “star”? Usher or Big Boi? Tyler Perry? The possibilities are endless. But for those who found Swift’s “1989” album a genius slice of polished pop, attention will be — and should be — turned toward her live presentations of “Blank Space” and “Style.”

With Vance Joy and Shawn Mendes. 7 p.m. Oct. 24. $59.50-$200. Georgia Dome, 1 Georgia Dome Drive N.W., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

The Lone Bellow

In early 2015, the Brooklyn-based trio of indie-folk musicians Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist and Kanene Pipkin unveiled their second album, “Then Came the Morning,” a release produced by Aaron Dessner of the National. The Lone Bellow’s authentic combination of folk, gospel and rock has earned the band kudos from indie music-loving fans as well as the mainstream, with the Wall Street Journal praising the “fire, inventive arrangements and lack of artifice” on “Morning.”

With Anderson East. 9 p.m. Oct. 24. $22. Center Stage, 1374 W. Peachtree St., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

MONDAY

Chris Cornell

For this solo tour, Cornell hasn’t changed his ’90s-grunge uniform of jeans and flannel, but the presentation of his material is decidedly quieter. At recent shows, the Soundgarden frontman has offered two hours of romantic ballads (some from his current album, “Higher Truth”), Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson covers, and revamped Soundgarden songs.

With Hemming. 8 p.m. Oct. 26. Sold out. Symphony Hall, 1280 Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

TUESDAY

Kendrick Lamar

Earlier this month, Lamar announced the “first annual” Kunta’s Groove Sessions Tour, which he said would take place in eight cities in intimate venues over eight nights. Atlanta, obviously, is on the list, but it appears the itinerary has grown to a dozen shows. The eloquent California rapper, whose “To Pimp a Butterfly” album is one of the year’s best, will be backed by the Wesley Theory and include special guest Jay Rock.

9 p.m. Oct. 27. $49.50. The Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.
