UPS announced it is acquiring trade management firm Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services to build the shipping giant’s customs brokerage business.

Sandy Spring-based UPS said it made the acquisition Nov. 30. Sandler & Travis Travel Advisory Services has 750 employees who specialize in trade, with most of them based outside the United States.

UPS International president Jim Barber said the deal will help UPS customers “maximize their trade investments and minimize complexity, time and cost throughout their international trade operations.

UPS earlier this year acquired a company specializing in Foreign Trade Zone services called Zone Solutions.
