The appointment of the next general manager of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, John Selden, has been confirmed by the Atlanta City Council.

The city council approved the appointment of Selden at its meeting Monday, after votes in favor by the council's transportation committee and committee on council.

Selden, who joined the Atlanta airport from a position as deputy general manager of New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, will be paid a salary of $280,000.

Balram Bheodari, a longtime Atlanta airport deputy general manager, had been serving as interim general manager after airport GM Roosevelt Council was shifted to the role of chief financial officer for the city earlier this year.
