Atlanta mayor: Hartsfield-Jackson manager search to continue into June

During a cabinet meeting on Monday, Bottoms told 26 top city officials that she wanted their resignation letters by the end of the day.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the search for a new manager of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will continue into coming months.

The mayor last week asked her entire cabinet, including the airport's current general manager Roosevelt Council, to submit their resignations, and said she would later decide which resignations she would accept.

The mayor's office already had six searches for key cabinet positions ongoing.

A slate of five finalists have been selected for two other positions: Chief information officer and Commissioner of human resources, the mayor said during an Atlanta Press Club luncheon talk Wednesday.

Bottoms said the slate for the airport general manager search “should be available in June.”

Council was named interim general manager in mid-2016 after then-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed fired airport head Miguel Southwell. Council was selected by Reed for the permanent position later that year and was confirmed by the Atlanta City Council in early 2017.

Since submitting the required resignation, Council has continued the work of managing the world's busiest airport, and said last week he is "heavily contemplating" whether to enter the running for the position he currently holds.
