Actress and producer Regina King has teamed with FX to create a series about the Atlanta child murders from 1979 and 1980 through the eyes of a teenager whose mom was an investigator, according to Deadline.com.

Twenty nine African-American children, teens, and young adults — mostly males — were kidnapped and murdered around the city of Atlanta, fostering fear and paranoia in many neighborhoods at the time. Wayne Williams, convicted for life in 1982 of killing two adults, has long been linked to the child murders, but he has long maintained his innocence.

King's series is based on Kim Reid’s 2007 memoir "No Place Safe." Reid was 13 years old when the case happened. She was placed in a private school with mostly white kids during that tense time. The series will be seen from her perspective watching her mom try to solve the case, which received national attention.

The actress, who is a star on ABC's "American Crime," is working with the show's executive producers John Ridley and Michael McDonald on this new series.
