Netflix has quietly raised the monthly subscription costs of two of its higher-tier options.

The basic subscription choice remains $7.99 a month, which is in standard definition and allows just one screen stream at a time.

The mid-tier option is now up $1 a month to $10.99. That allows two screens at a time and HD definition.

The top-tier subscription has been raised $2 a month to $13.99. That option allows four screens at a time as well as HD and ultra HD viewing.

The company is investing a mind-boggling estimated $7 billion in 2018 on original programming, up from $6 billion this year and $5 billion last year.

Its next quarterly earnings report is scheduled October 16. The company had about 104 million subscribers worldwide by the end of the second quarter. About 52 million are from the United States.
