Current podcast host and former Atlanta radio host Melissa Carter, a kidney transplant recipient 15 years ago, has always been a huge fan of the Rose Bowl parade. So when she applied and actually was picked to be on the Donate Life Rose Parade float, she was thrilled.

"I'm a fan because of the art of it," she said. "The fact everything is made of organic materials, the effort it takes."

But she got a major bonus: the University of Georgia will be playing the Rose Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners for a possible shot at a National Championship crown a week later at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

"The SEC teams never go to the Rose Bowl," she said. "It's so bizarre."

Piedmont Hospital, as a sponsor, will cover her hotel costs.

Carter, who has worked at Q100 and B98.5, is currently a podcast host for a daily show called "She Persisted" on the Atlanta-based Progressive Voices Network. Her show airs daily from 8 to 9 a.m.

UPDATE: Here she is on the float!
