Jennifer Leslie Boettcher, a veteran 11Alive reporter, is leaving the station to become the communications director for the City of Dunwoody.

In a press release, the city cited her “extensive media experience and strong community connections.”

"She is well-known around the community, and strengthening this connection is that she is a Dunwoody resident," said City Manager Eric Linton.

Boettcher has spent 21 years at 11Alive, most recently on its morning team called the Morning Rush. She spent 21 years as a reporter for 11Alive News in Atlanta. She has six Emmy Awards to her name.

Boettcher moved to Dunwoody 12 years ago with her husband, Matt, and has two sons Blake and Bo.

“It will be nice to work less than two miles from my house in a city I always loved,” Boettcher said in an interview today.

She said her last day on air will be Wednesday, November 21, the day before Thanksgiving. She starts with the city of Dunwoody the first week of December.

“It will be nice to have a more normal schedule,” she said. “I’ll miss 11Alive. I grew up there. I got married and had kids while working there. I have so many good friends and memories and stories. But for the first time in my life, I was ready for the next chapter. This came along, which was just great.”

She joins other former TV broadcasters who have gone into the communications/PR field. Among others: Stephanie Fisher (CBS46 to MARTA), Keith Whitney (11Alive to CBS46 to City of Atlanta), Kevin Rowson (11Alive to the FBI) and Ross Cavitt (WSB-TV to Cobb County).
