HBO has never shot a regular series in Atlanta, but that may be changing soon.
“Watchmen,” a high-budget affair starring big-name actors such as Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson and Louis Gossett Jr., recently shot a lavish pilot in metro Atlanta. HBO is officially taking it to series.
I am unsure yet if it will stay local, but sources tell me it’s likely to stay here. We’ll know for sure soon.
Damon Lindelof ( “Lost,” “The Leftovers”) created the ambitious sci-fi series, which is based loosely on the DC Comics property and a popular graphic novel by Alan Moore. It’s set in an alternative universe where superheroes are treated as outlaws.
Lindelof has said the series will be “remix” of the comics that will be contemporary and “original.”
HBO, in its release, described it as embracing “the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.”
It will premiere in 2019.
