BET has cancelled its Atlanta-based and Atlanta-produced drama "The Quad" about life at a fictional historically black college.

Its second season finale aired earlier this month.

The series starred  Anika Noni Rose as Dr. Eva Fletcher, president of Georgia A&M University, and also featured Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Sean Blakemore and Jasmine Guy.

The show last year averaged 1.3 million viewers, counting DVR usage over a week. Overnight ratings were in the 800,000 range. During season two, ratings slipped nearly 30 percent to around 550,000 overnight viewers and fewer than 1 million total viewers.

Variety broke the story while I was out of the country.
