Live music fans looking to purchase tickets at Eddie’s Attic, Variety Playhouse, Terminal West and Venkman’s will need to apply a little patience.
The Atlanta venues all use the same ticketing service, Ticketfly.com, which on Thursday was targeted in a cyberattack.
Ticketfly technicians have taken the site down while they address the issue and investigate to what, if any, extent customers’ personal information was compromised. There is no timeline for when it will be functional again. Ticketfly, based in California, services more than 1,000 venues nationwide.
Andrew Hingley, owner and talent buyer at Eddie’s Attic, said he sympathizes with large venues and festivals around the country that use the program and would be selling thousands of tickets this weekend. As well, he noted, “an artist who put a show on sale on a Thursday might have sold 20 or 30 more tickets…a lot of marketing dollars get lost. You lose the regular engagement with your audience.”
Hingley said he was notified of the Ticketfly cybersecurity incident Thursday morning.
“You would think with how complex a system like that is, that some person would have said, if all hell breaks loose, how will we sell tickets?,” he said. “I think everyone will be more secure moving forward.”
Ticketfly has been “re-building” some shows on Eventbrite.com, its sister site that services festivals. Hingley hopes that by mid-afternoon Friday, some Eddie’s Attic shows will be available for purchase through that site.
In the meantime, Eddie’s Attic patrons can buy tickets at the door or call the box office at 404-377-4976.
At the Variety Playhouse, tickets for Friday’s Leo Kottke show will be available at the door only.
Tickets for their newest on-sale, Alina Baraz on Sept. 10, can be purchased through the Eventbrite link on the www.variety-playhouse.com site.
Terminal West is operating under a similar directive.
Tickets for the Friday Stokeswood with Dreambrother show will be available at the door only.
Tickets for their new on-sale, Truth & Salvage Co. on Dec. 21, can be purchased through the Eventbrite link on the Terminal West home page.
