Prince was so enamored with his Atlanta concerts last week at the Fox Theatre that he told fans in Minneapolis he hoped to release a live album from one of the recordings.
My friend Jon Bream at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, who covered Prince’s career since the early days ( you can read his lovely, first-person account of his relationship with the enigmatic star here ), reported that at Prince’s less-than-five-minute appearance at Paisley Park on Saturday , he commented that he wanted to release one of the concerts.
At the end of Prince’s brief interaction with about 200 fans who paid $10 to attend the last-minute gathering – billed as a way for Prince to let everyone know that rumors of illness were being exaggerated – he played 30 minutes of one of the Atlanta concerts over the Paisley Park sound system (no word on whether it was from the 7 p.m. or 10 p.m. performance on April 14).
Prince also, wrote Bream, chided a fan for taking a photo (those who attended the Fox shows know how strict security was on the orchestra level).
After joking with the fan for a moment, Prince allowed her to stay.
