Atlanta-based rappers including Jeezy, 2 Chainz and David Banner, as well as R&B singer Lyfe Jennings and Dr. Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, gathered at a town hall discussion about race relations and police reform.
A panel of speakers at the Tuesday meeting included law enforcement officers and civil rights leaders along with the music personalities.
Hundreds attended the meeting at House of Hope church in Decatur and our sister property WSB reports that Banner and Jennings got into an altercation over differing views.
According to the TV station, Banner suggested that police officers face financial or physical consequences for bad behavior. Jennings disagreed and eventually, the two had to be separated.
Banner told WSB’s Matt Johnson, “I’m tired and am glad that black people are fired up. They should be.”
Jennings later addressed the incident on his Twitter account.
Atlanta radio host Rickey Smiley steered the event and said he hopes that the fiery discussions will spur people to show up and vote in local elections.
