George Strait might have retired from regular touring, but the country behemoth never said he’d stop taking the stage.
That’s good news for Georgia fans, because The King of Country Music will play Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 30 with reigning CMA and ACM male vocalist of the year, Chris Stapleton. They’ll be joined by Chris Janson (a best new artist nominee at the Nov. 14 CMA Awards) and breakout singer/songwriter Ashley McBryde.
Tickets, which start at $49, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 via www.ticketmaster.com.
Strait’s performance will mark his only Atlanta date since his 2014 “Cowboy Rides Away” tour – his final official lengthy run – played State Farm Arena (aka the venue formerly known as Philips Arena).
Throughout the years, Strait, 66,has primarily performed at Infinite Energy Arena and State Farm Arena. But he also christened Turner Field as the first musical act to play there in 1998 with his George Strait Country Music Festival (he hosted the event a second time at the former baseball mecca in 2001).
He’s performed a handful of shows this year, including headlining the New Orleans Bayou Country Superfest, and will return to one of his favorite haunts, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, for shows Dec. 7-8.
Strait earned 60 chart-topping songs during his 30-year career, as well as 33 platinum or multi-platinum albums – a feat trailing only The Beatles and Elvis Presley. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
