To celebrate his 90th birthday in October , Chuck Berry announced the release of "Chuck," his first album in 38 years.
The album has yet to be released, but will now serve as a memorial to the pioneer of “Rock and Roll Music.”
Berry, a St. Louis native, died at his Missouri home Saturday.
The St. Charles County Police Department confirmed the death on its Facebook page , noting that the man legally known as Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr. was found unresponsive and could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at 1:26 p.m. local time.
During his performing career, Berry duck walked through Atlanta several times, playing at Georgia Tech in 1961, The Omni in 1973, Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City in 2001 and Chastain Park Amphitheatre in 2003, among other appearances.
Atlanta also received a shout-out in “Promised Land,” when Berry sang, “We was ninety miles out of Atlanta by sundown, rollin' 'cross the Georgia state.”
Immediately following the news of Berry’s death, Twitter exploded with condolences from many in the music community.
