Widespread Panic
Panic fans might want to make an effort to catch the band this time because, according to bassist Dave Schools, it’s going to be their last tour — at least, for the near future. “We’ve been pretty much steadily touring for 30 years. That seems like a pretty long time,” Schools said in a recent interview. The band recently released the album “Street Dogs.”

Heart
If the newer acts at Music Midtown aren’t your thing, there is a mighty bill of old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll happening at Chastain with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lineup of Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Cheap Trick. Heart recently unveiled “Beautiful Broken,” an album of primarily re-recorded songs from their formidable catalog. Nancy Wilson said the band will play a few of those tracks, as well as the new “I Jump.” But it wouldn’t be a Heart concert without air guitar favorites “Magic Man” and “Crazy on You.”

Alice in Chains
One of the more memorable sets at last year's Music Midtown came from these hard rockers, who have been fronted by Atlanta native William DuVall since 2006, four years after the death of original singer Layne Staley. Those waiting for a follow-up to the band's 2014 album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here," will have to maintain their patience. DuVall recently said that Alice in Chains plans to finish this tour before recording.

Squirrel Nut Zippers
The festive band from North Carolina landed in the “swing revival” spotlight of the late ’90s with the song “Hell.” After a hiatus of several years, the band announced this short tour — its first since 2009 — which finds leader Jimbo Mathus and original member Chris Phillips hitting the stage with a new lineup to support the 20th anniversary of their well-known “Hot” album.
