Girls tennis in the highest classification is ruled by Walton. The Raiders have won the state championship in 13 of the last 14 years. They’ve won the last three and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Norman has been a big part of that.
The senior is one of the top prospects in the state and has signed with James Madison. She is rated a five-star recruit and the No. 74 prospect in the country by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Norman played No. 1 singles for the Raiders last year and helped first-year coach Anthony Foti win a championship in his debut season.
Norman’s future college coach, James Bryce, said, “Liz is a talented player with lots of upside. She has continue to show improvement throughout the recruitment process and is committed to advancing her game.”
Here is a list of some of the top girls tennis players in the state. This does not include many top-ranked girls who don't play for their high schools.
Mallory Gilmer, Etowah: The senior played No. 1 singles for the Eagles last year and helped them finish second in the state. Gilmer has signed with Alabama.
Danielle Bauers, Alpharetta: The senior plays No. 1 singles for the Raiders. She has signed with Iowa.
Carling Deehr, Chattahoochee: The senior is a four-year letterman who has played No. 1 singles for the team in three of her four seasons. She has signed to play at Western Carolina.
Lauren Alexander, Wesleyan: Ranked the No. 17 player in the state. She went 19-3 at No. 2 singles and helped Wesleyan win back-to-back state championships.
Elizabeth Verizova, North Gwinnett: The freshman is rated as a five-star prospect and has settled in as the team's No. 1 singles player. She is ranked as the No. 42 freshman in the country.
Christina Bugg, Brookwood: The senior is ranked No. 14 in the state and has signed with North Georgia.
Kayleigh Hahn, Mill Creek: Se went 16-3 last season as a junior at the No. 1 spot and named to the All-Gwinnett team. She is ranked No. 16 in the state.
Olena Bilukha, Chamblee: The junior was 16-0 at No. 1 singles for the Bulldogs a year ago and helped the team go 15-3 and reach the quarterfinal round.
Grace Staes, Westminster: The junior is in her second season as the No. 1 singles player for the Wildcats.
Mary Weston Courville, Columbus: The sophomore played No. 1 for the Blue Devils last year and helped them win the state championship. Her twin sister, Abby, also plays on the team.
Samantha Dearing, Kell: The senior plays No. 1 singles for the Longhorns, who lost in the state championship match last year.
Ansley Reynolds, Marist: She helped Marist to the Class AAAA title match as a freshman last season.
Avi Arora, Pace Academy: She led the Knights to the state championship last year as a freshman.
Eliza Freedman, Stratford Academy: The junior helped Stratford Academy reach the Class A Private final last year. Freedman is a two-time choice for Middle Georgia Player of the Year.
Gracie Hemmings, Brookstone: The sophomore took the Cougars to the Class A Private title last year.
