Top 10 breakdown: Boys and Girls

With region tournaments fast approaching, it's a good time to take a look at the top 10 boys and girls teams to see where they are and what they have in store for the next few games of the season. Buckle up.

On the boys side of Class AAA:

Changes in the Boys Top 10 from last week's rankings:

-- Westside-Macon takes over the top spot.

-- Previous No. 1 Morgan County falls to No. 2.

-- Pace Academy jumps from No. 9 to No. 3.

-- Greater Atlanta Christian falls from No. 3 to No. 6.

-- Cedar Grove moves up from No. 8 to No. 7.

Region 4 record: 7-1 (Half-game behind 10th-ranked Central-Macon, 8-1)

Overall record: 15-3

Notable: In the 104-58 victory against Kendrick on Friday, 6-foot-8 junior Khavon Moore scored 53 points. The Seminoles will face Peach County on Tuesday, and Central plays Kendrick.

No. 2 Morgan County

Region 8 record: 6-0 (first place)

Overall record: 14-5

Notable: Since the Jan. 16 loss to Lincoln, Fla., the Bulldogs defeated Jackson County 101-44 and Franklin County 83-44. Morgan will face Hart County on Tuesday.

No. 3 Pace Academy

Region 5 record: 8-1 (Half-game behind No. 7 Cedar Grove, 9-1)

Overall Record: 10-8

Notable: Pace handed region leader Cedar Grove its only region loss of the season Jan. 20, 69-52. Tuesday's game against Westminster will be streamed online by the NFHS Network.

No. 4 Jenkins

Region 3 record: 10-1 (first place)

Overall record: 15-7

Notable: The Warriors have four players averaging double-figures in scoring -- 6-5 senior shooting guard Trevion Lamar (18.5 points per game), 5-8 senior point guard Zion Williams (14.4 points per game), 6-3 junior forward Tyrone Scott (11.2 points per game) and 5-11 point guard Tre Mays (10.5 points per game). Jenkins will face Savannah on Friday.

No 5. Liberty County

Region 2 record: 6-1 (first place)

Overall record: 13-5

Notable: The Panthers have won five consecutive games, including a 121-82 thrashing of rival Long County. In the victory against Long County, 6-4 junior shooting guard Will Richardson scored 38 points. Auburn commitment Davion Mitchell is averaging 23 points, nearly five assists and five rebounds per game. The Panthers play Brantley County on Friday.

No. 6 Greater Atlanta Christian

Region 7 record: 8-0 (first place over East Hall, 7-1)

Overall record: 15-4

Notable: Since the Dec. 29 loss to Berkmar, 62-56, the Spartans have won five consecutive games, including four region victories. GAC will travel to East Hall on Tuesday to defend the top spot in the region.

No. 7 Cedar Grove

Region 5 record: 9-1

Overall record: 10-5

Notable: The Saints will have a region game against Stone Mountain on Tuesday, and if Cedar Grove loses and Pace wins against Westminster, Pace will move to the No. 1 spot in Region 5.

No. 8 Islands

Region 3 record: 8-2 (second behind No. 4 Jenkins, 10-1)

Overall record: 13-7

Notable: Trae Broadnax, a 6-4 sophomore, is leading the teams with 19.8 points per game. Justin Cave, a 6-2 senior, is averaging 19.3 points. The Sharks have lost three games in a row and will look to turn the momentum in their favor Tuesday at Windsor-Forest.

No. 9 Johnson-Savannah

Region 3 record: 8-3 (third behind No. 4 Jenkins and No. 8 Islands)

Overall record: 13-8

Notable: The Atomsmashers had won five consecutive games before losing to No. 4 Jenkins on Saturday. Johnson will face Beach on Friday and then No. 8 Islands on Jan. 31.

No. 10 Central-Macon

Region 4 record: 8-1 (half-game lead over top-ranked Westside-Macon, 7-1)

Overall record: 15-4

Notable: The Chargers will face region challenger Rutland on Tuesday.

On the girls side of Class AAA:

Changes in the Girls Top 10 from last week's rankings:

-- Hart County falls from No. 6 to No. 5

-- Calhoun falls from No. 5 to No. 10

-- Monroe moves from No. 7 to No. 6

Region 3 record: 11-0 (first ahead of Beach, 9-1)

Overall record: 19-1

Notable: Senior Alexis Pearce (5-9) leads all scorers with 16.9 points per game. The Lady Atomsmashers will face Beach on Friday and have momentum heading into the game. Johnson has won seven consecutive games since its last loss, which came against Beach. You could say they are out for revenge.

No. 2 Beach

Region 3 record: 9-1 (second behind No. 1 Johnson)

Overall record: 18-1

Notable: The Bulldogs will face No. 1 Johnson on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs handed Johnson its only loss of the season Dec. 19, 63-56 in overtime.

No. 3 Greater Atlanta Christian

Region 7 record: 7-1 (second behind East Hall, 8-0)

Overall record: 12-6

Notable: The Lady Spartans will have a chance to tie for the top spot in Region 7 when they face East Hall on Tuesday at East Hall.

No. 4 Franklin County

Region 8 record: 5-0 (first over No. 5 Hart County , 5-1)

Overall record: 15-4

Notable: The Lady Lions have won six consecutive games and will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday's region game at home against Jackson County.

No. 5 Hart County

Region 8 record: 5-1

Overall record: 17-3

Notable: The Lady Bulldogs will host Morgan County on Tuesday in a region game. Hart County's last loss game against No. 4 Franklin County on Jan. 13 (70-54).

No. 6 Monroe

Region 1 record: 4-0 (first over Cook, 4-1)

Overall record: 15-3

Notable: Monroe has won six consecutive games since a 67-45 loss to Colquitt County in the Vereen Rehab Christmas Shootout. The Lady Tornadoes will face Wilkinson County on Tuesday.

No. 7 Ringgold

Region 6-A record: 7-1 (first over North Murray, 7-2)

Overall record: 15-5

Notable: The Lady Tigers will look to hang on the the top spot in their region as they face North Murray on Tuesday.

No. 8 Peach County

Region 4 record: 8-0 (first over Central-Macon, 7-2)

Overall record: 14-3

Notable: Daishai Almond leads the scoring for the Lady Trojans with 17.2 points per game. Peach has won 11 consecutive games. Its last loss came on Dec. 13 against Northside-Warner Robins, 50-44. The Lady Trojans will face Westside-Macon on Tuesday.

No. 9 Haralson County

Region 6-B record: 7-2 (tied for first with Calhoun)

Overall record: 18-3

Notable: The Lady Rebels have won 13 consecutive games and will look to carry that momentum into the Tuesday's region game at Sonoraville. Haralson defeated No. 10 Calhoun 74-55 Jan. 20 to tie for first in the region.

No. 10 Calhoun

Region 6-B record: 7-2 (tied for first with Haralson County)

Overall record: 16-4

Notable: The Lady Yellow Jackets lost at Haralson County, 74-55, Jan. 20, but have a shot at revenge when they will host the Lady Rebels on Saturday. In the meantime, Calhoun will host Adairsville Tuesday.
