Two of the top tennis players in the state helped Northview win the Class AAAAAA championship a year ago.
Jeremy Yuan played No. 1 singles and Matt Terry was at No. 2 singles when the Titans defeated rival Johns Creek 3-2 in the championship match. Yuan and Terry are both considered five-star recruits by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Yuan has signed with Chicago University and Terry has signed with Cleveland State.
Here is a list of some of the top boys tennis players in the state. This does not include many top-ranked boys who don't play for their high schools.
Jake Briggs, Calhoun: Briggs helped Calhoun reach the state championship match as a sophomore. He has signed with Belmont.
William Grattan-Smith, Atlanta International School: The senior four-star recruit signed with Nebraska.
Sean McKendree, Norcross: He went 11-2 at No. 1 singles last season. He is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 15 player in the state. He has committed to Air Force.
Brandon Ly, Parkview: A sophomore, he went 20-1 last year and helped the Panthers win the regiontitle. A three-star prospect.
Ryan Olps, North Gwinnett: The senior was first-team All-Gwinnett last year when he went 10-4 at No. 1 singles and helped his team win the region championship.
Cole Brainard, Dunwoody: He went 13-3 at No. 1 singles last season as a freshman to help the Wildcats win the Region 6-AAAAA title and power through the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Carter Arant, Carollton: The senior helped the Trojans reach the Class AAAA final as the team's No. 1 singles player. He has committed to Mercer.
Jefferson Dockter, Marist: He played No. 1 for the War Eagles last year en route to the state championship, the team's third straight. Will follow in his father Scott's footsteps and play tennis at the University of Virginia.
Connor McCarthy, Oconee County: The No. 1 singles player for the Warriors helped them reach the AAA title game last year. He was named All-Area Player of the Year by the Athens Banner-Herald.
Joshua Pinckney, Westminster: He played No. 2 singles a year ago and helped the Wildcats win the AAA championship. The senior is ranked No. 21 in Georgia. He has verbally committed to Carnegie Mellon.
Joshua Doman, Westminter: Played on the No. 1 doubles team that won state last year. Currently ranked No. 22 in Georgia.
Will Funston, Pace Academy: He helped the Knights emerge from one of the toughest leagues in the state and reach the Class AA final. Funston played No. 1 singles as a freshman in 2016.
Alex Boyette, Athens Academy: The senior is coming off an amazing season that saw him got undefeated, win the area championship and reach the Class A Private final.
Chandler Hagan, Apalachee: He went 19-1 at No. 1 singles as a junior and improved his career record o 45-5. He has made a verbal commitment to play at Montevallo.
Eli Hagan, Apalachee: He went 20-0 as a freshman and helped the team win its first region championship. He and brother Chandler were both all-region selections.
