Storm threatens playoffs ... Wayne Co. plays Thursday

Region 2-AAAAA  is made up of schools from Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Ware and Wayne counties. Chatham County took the brunt of the abuse, but all areas sustained damage due to heavy rains and high winds.

Rescheduling of games won’t be easy and will require some flexibility.

For example, the South Effingham game at Wayne County, scheduled for Oct. 7, will be played on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Jaycee stadium. This is Wayne County’s homecoming game and there will be a pregame parade, if the DOT gives its approval. Wayne County is charging only $3 for tickets and is asking fans to bring non-perishable items to donate to those in the community who took a hit.

The New Hampstead game at Statesboro was originally rescheduled for Monday, but that was cancelled because Chatham County schools were out of session. Chatham schools will be out until Oct. 17, although athletic activities could resume earlier. However, there is currently no makeup date scheduled for this game.

New Hampstead will now have two games to reschedule, last week’s game at Statesboro and this week’s game against South Effingham.  The Phoenix have an open date on Oct. 28, but that might not be an option since that is when Statesboro and South Effingham – New Hampstead’s two missing games – are schedule to play each other.

The team with the least conflict is Ware County. The Gators lost last week’s game against East Lake of Tarpon Springs, Fla. That game will not be rescheduled. That leaves Ware County with four region games to finish the season, including this week’s home game with Statesboro.
