Soccer State Championship Recaps at McEachern

Class AAAAAAA Boys: Meadowcreek 2, Pebblebrook 0

The stakes Saturday were equal as both programs entered the championship looking for their program's first-ever state title. Maverick Lobo hustled down a long lob pass, got past Pebblebrook's last line of defense and sent through the lone goal of the first half. Lobo cushioned the lead with his second goal of the game with 29:55 left. Teammate Henry Benavides assisted on the goal in the game played at McEachern High School.

Class AAAAAAA Girls: Lambert 2, Grayson 1 (OT)

Lambert found its first goal of the game Saturday off the cross bar with 19:41 left in the opening half. The Rams tied it with 39:15 left on a Brittany Montgomery shot that ricochet off the cross bar and off of a Lambert defender into the goal. Despite plenty of action, the two teams finished regulation 1-1. Lambert got the game winner on an Alisa Barr goal with 2:59 left.

Class AAAA Boys: Southeast Whitfield 3, Druid Hills 2 (2OT)

Druid Hills erased a 2-1 deficit Saturday on a penalty kick with 32:44 left and the teams ended regulation tied 2-2. Southeast Whitfield clinched the victory in the second overtime to secure the program's first state title.

Class AAAA Girls: St. Pius 1, Marist 0 (updated)

St. Pius won its fifth straight state championship Saturday in the win over Marist. These long-time rivals have met in each of the last three Class AAAA finals that have all finished in the Golden Lions' favor. It wasn’t until the 32nd minute mark in the second half, where St. Pius forward Caroline Orman netted the game-deciding goal.

Between controversial calls and impassioned play, St. Pius ended the game with two yellow cards while Marist had one yellow card.

"Every time we got the ball someone was on our backs,” Marist defender Kendall Keebaugh said in regards to the aggression of the game. “There would always be three St. Pius girls pressing the ball at one time.”

For St. Pius, it was another season to remember as the Golden Lions won 22 games against a loss and a tie and since 2009 have won eight state titles.

Class AAA Boys: Westminster 2, Pace Academy 1

Westminster got early scoring Friday night and never trailed as the program clinched its 12th all-time boys soccer state title and first since 2013 with a 2-1 win over Pace Academy. The Wildcats got on the scoreboard less than four minutes into the game with a goal by Watson Jackson.

Whit Sperau cushioned the lead with 12:12 left in the half on a strike from 20 yards out. After 38 scoreless second-half minutes, Pace Academy made it a 2-1 game with just 1:47 left to play.

The Westminster girls scored all three of its goals Friday night in the of second half of a 3-0 shutout over Pace Academy in the Girls Class AAA soccer state championship. The victory gave Westminster its third straight state title and the program’s 11th all-time crown.

After a series of lighting delays stockpiled into a two-hour halftime, the second half resumed and Westminster quickly got on the board with an unassisted goal by Maggie Graham. Teammate Tori Penn was assisted by Delaney on the Widlcats’ second goal in the first 11:13 of the second half.

Astrid Wheeler iced the game with Westminster’s final goal with an assist from Kaliah Adams at 27.29.
