Programs to keep an eye on: Week 9

New rankings for Week 9 were not released for this week at publishing time. Last week's rankings peg the top teams as Lambert's boys and Milton's girls in 6A-7A and Westminster's boys and Blessed Trinity's girls in A-5A. According to the LaxPower.com RPI rankings, Lambert's boys and Blessed Trinity's girls are the top overall teams.

Here are some programs to keep an eye on:

Cambridge Golden Bears (11-4)

Upcoming matches: at No. 6 Pope (12-5) on Saturday, North Forsyth (5-9) on Thursday, at No. 7 Milton (9-5) on April 28.

Notes: The No. 8 Golden Bears close the regular season playing two of their three final games against ranked teams on the road. The Bears are 1-4 against ranked teams this season, with the win coming against No. 10 Walton and the losses coming to No. 1 Lambert, No. 9 West Forsyth, and A-5A's No. 3 Marist and No. 4 Buford. Of their three final regular season opponents, they played only one last year, beating Milton 10-6.

Cambridge Lady Golden Bears (11-5)

Upcoming matches: South Forsyth (9-3) on Tuesday, at No. 1 Milton (10-3) on April 28.

Notes: The No. 6 Lady Golden Bears end the regular season with an ideal test heading into the postseason in top-ranked Milton. But they head into next Tueday's South Forsyth matchup having lost two of their last three, with a 23-0 win over Forsyth Central sandwiched in between the losses. All three losses were competitive — they lost to Jackson, Massillon-Ohio 8-7 in double overtime on March 30, 11-0 to No. 4 Mill Creek on April 13 and 8-7 to No. 2 North Gwinnett on Tuesday. Jackson, Massillon is undefeated and Ohio's No. 1 team in LaxPower.com's RPI rankings, and North Gwinnett was also undefeated at the time the two played, so Cambridge has proven it can compete with the best.

Centennial Lady Knights (12-2)

Upcoming matches: No. 2 North Gwinnett (15-1) on Tuesday, Lakeside-DeKalb (0-3) on April 28.

Notes: The No. 9 Lady Knights have put together a strong campaign and are currently undefeated against Peach State teams, though the score of their game against Chattahoochee (7-4) on Thursday has yet to be reported. Their only losses came during a spring break event on April 1, when they lost to Charlotte CDS-North Carolina 17-11 and Weddington-North Carolina 11-9. Charlotte CDS is No. 6 and Weddington is No. 17 in the LaxPower.com North Carolina RPI rankings. They beat No. 10 Kennesaw Mountain 16-8 on Tuesday, their only win against a ranked opponent. Six of their wins have come against teams with winning records.
