Preseason all-state teams: Class A (private)

*Best player: Jacob Cendoya of Mount Pisgah Christian passed for 2,410 yards with 22 touchdowns and rushed for 1,014 with 10 scores in 11 games last season. Cendoya has offers from Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.

*Best position: Linebacker. Eagle's Landing Christian's Harrison Taylor was the Class A private-school defensive player of the year in 2016. ELCA's George Shockley had more than 20 tackles for losses. Mount Paran Christian's Jackson Reese was his subregion's defensive player of the year. And then there's Richard Jibunor of Athens Christian.

*Highly recruited: Jibunor is the consensus No. 27 recruit in Georgia. He was injured for much of 2016. The only other four-star recruit among Class A private schools is ELCA's Tre Douglas, a cornerback who is committed to Vanderbilt.

*Lowly recruited: It's not unusual to make all-state in Class A without having major college offers, especially on the offensive line. ELCA's Zack Jones and Fellowship Christian's Tad Aycock were the best blockers and key leaders on teams that reached the state championship game.

*What else is new?: ELCA, the defending private-school champion, has five players on the team, four on defense. One is Khaleb Hood, who missed most of last season with an injury. A safety, Hood had six return touchdowns in 2015.
