Jefferson County 44, Butler 8:
How the game was won: Jefferson County responded with 44 unanswered points to move to 8-0, the program's best start since 2009. Jimmy Thomas and Nikel Stone started the scoring before quarterback Jaden Jenkins rushed for a touchdown and found junior Ty King for a 51-yard score to make it 28-8. A Warriors safety preceded back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Jayron McKinney to close the game.
Top performers: Jaden Jenkins passed for a touchdown and rushed for a score, while Jayron McKinney also produced a multi-touchdown performance.
Coffee 42, Houston County 35
How the game was won: In their first region game, Coffee played host to Houston County, who was looking to bounce back after its blowout loss to Lee County. Things didn't get started until the second quarter when Coffee scored the first and only touchdown of the half. The Trojans tacked on two field goals for a 13-0 lead at halftime. Coffee would extend their lead to 20-0 early in the third quarter. Houston County would finally get on the board to make it a 20-7 ballgame. After a score from each, Coffee lead the Bears 27-14 headed into the fourth quarter. After another Trojan score, Houston County scored two straight touchdown to pull the game within one possession. Coffee held a 34-28 lead with five minutes remaining before Meaty Davis would score the difference maker for Coffee. Fromm and Houston County made it a 42-35 game with a minute remaining, but failed on the onside-kick giving Coffee their first region win.
Top Performers: It was the Meaty Davis show and he made all the difference. Davis totaled for five touchdowns, four rushing and one receiving. His game winner would go for 65-yards, the longest of the night.
Northside-Warner Robins 26, Lee County 7
How the game was won: After their first loss of the season, the Eagles would bounce back tonight. Northside held Lee County scoreless in the first half to build a 20-0 lead. Lee County got it within two scores late in the 3rd, but the Eagles defense kept it at that and helped Northside go on to win by a final of 26-7.
Top Performers: A 50-yard interception for a touchdown from Isaiah Nelson capped off the strong defensive performance for Northside. On the offensive side, Tobias Oliver contributed to all three touchdowns, one going for an 84-yard run in the 1st half.
Lambert 48, North Forsyth 40
How the game was won:
Tyler Gillis gave Lambert a 41-40 lead with a 13-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, and Justin Bruno gave the visiting Longhorns a 48-40 advantage with a 38-yard rush. Lambert turned North Forsyth over on downs on its final drive to hold on.
Top performers:
Richie Kenney found Gillis for two other touchdowns, a 78-yarder in the first quarter and a 75-yarder in the third. Bruno also had two long TD runs, of 74 yards in the first quarter and 79 yards in the second, to go along with his final score. Brian Wright had a 9-yard rushing TD in the third quarter for Lambert. For North Forsyth, QB Ben Bales had three touchdown passes, two to Simon Holcomb for 53 and 64 yards.
Tattnall Square Academy 34, Twiggs County 27
How the game was won: Twiggs County's success against private schools came to an end as Tattnall Square held on after leading 27-7 and 34-13 in a wild fourth quarter.
Top Performers: Ahmad Barron struck for three touchdowns before Twiggs County could even get on the board. Jimmy Marshall tossed a 19-yard touchdown to Barron before the quick running back punched in scores of eight and six yards. Antoine Davis scored on a 32-yard run and Vasco Sanders added an 11-yard score, both coming in the fourth quarter. Twiggs County worked its way back into the game behind Calvin Stephens. Stephens threw three touchdowns – two in the fourth quarter. He hit Javoris Smith on a 22-yard strike in the second quarter and found Musa Muhammad from 30 yards and Smith again from 10 yards in the fourth. Smith added a 92-yard kick return in the fourth.
Cartersville 35, Sandy Creek 21
How the game was won: Cartersville slipped past Sandy Creek in the second half after a 21-14 halftime lead behind the legs of Trey Creamer. Creamer scored two third quarter rushing touchdowns to give the Canes the separation they needed to remain undefeated.
Top Performers: Trevor Lawrence threw three first half touchdown passes to EJ Turner (6), Avery Showell (13) and JKobe Orr (18). Sandy Creek countered with a pair Bryant Walker touchdown tosses to Kaleb Slaughter to keep the Patriots within striking distance at the half. Trey Creamer's 14 and 9-yard touchdown runs in the third pushed the Hurricanes to a 35-14 lead entering the fourth before Jaelen Greene scored on a 2-yard run.
Fitzgerald 42, Berrien 0
How the game was won: Fitzgerald jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead with two James Graham touchdown passes to JD King to move to 6-1.
Top performers: King finished with just 15 yards rushing on six carries in the first half but had his only two catches go for TDs of 46 and 6 yards. He finished with 60 yards rushing on 10 carries and a 27-yard TD run in the third quarter. Graham was 6-of-10 passing for 122 yards and two TDs. Ethan Gordon opened scoring on a 45-yard run in the first quarter, and Montrell Harris scored on a 1-yard run later in the half. Damian Devine capped scoring on a 5-yard run. Fitzgerald blocked a punt and a field goal attempt and outgained Berrien 349-189.
Dalton 49, Sequoyah 21
How the game was won: The Catamounts jumped on Sequoyah early and never gave the home standing Chiefs a hope of winning, putting them in a quick 28-0 hole. Ahmad Tanner and Keith Adams overwhelmed Sequoyah on the ground, combining for five rushing touchdowns.
Top Performers: JP Tighe hit Kyric McGowan on a 33-yard touchdown pass on a quick three-play 56-yard drive to open up the scoring and later hit McGowan on a 9-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Ahmad Tanner scored on runs of seven, nine and 39 yards, all in the first half. Adams punched in an 8-yard score and a second half plunge.
Prince Avenue Christian 48, Hebron Christian 17
How the game was won: Prince Avenue ripped of 27-straight points after Hebron Christian took a 3-0 lead on a field goal with 2:18 left in the first quarter. The Wolverines scored nearly every way imaginable, using a kick return, punt return, fumble recovery and touchdown run to gain a commanding first half lead.
Top Performers: Thomas Huff scored on runs of one and five yards. Tyler Roberts returned a kick 70 yards and Christian Parrish took a punt back 55 yards. Collin Sweet returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown. Noah Campbell and Nick Brown scored on touchdown runs of seven and five yards, respectively.
Stratford Academy 28, First Presbyterian Day 0
How the game was won: After falling out of the Top 10 in Class A-Private, Stratford Academy made a statement by shutting out No. 8 First Presbyterian Day. Tyler Jordan powered the offense with all four touchdowns for the Eagles.
Top Performers: Tyler Jordan supplied the only offense of the game, scoring on touchdown runs of 21, 10, 11 and 15 yards.
