Lamar County football promotes defensive coordinator to replace Stephens

Lamar County has promoted defensive coordinator Jamie Abrams to replace Franklin Stephens as football coach.

Abrams, an Arkansas native, had been a secondary coach for Dublin before coming to Lamar County with Stephens in 2012. Abrams was head coach at Wadley High in Alabama in 2010, when the team finished 5-6.

Abrams also has assisted at South Paulding (defensive coordinator), East Paulding, Woodland (Ala.) and Minnesota State University.

Stephens was hired as head coach of Ware County in Waycross.

Lamar County finished 14-1 last season and was runner-up to Lovett in Class AA.
