6A-7A lacrosse playoffs: Round 2

ajc.com

Round 1 of the 6A-7A lacrosse playoffs were completed last week, with Round 2 beginning on Monday. Last week, I posted my predictions for the outcomes on both the boys' and girls' side. My crystal ball was a little hazy, as I missed on two games from each side.

Below are my prediction brackets with notes.

Notes

  • I missed on the North Paulding Wolfpack beating Dunwoody and the Hillgrove Hawks beating Parkview. Though the Wolfpack had a 6-9 record heading in to the postseason, they were on a two-game win streak including a 10-9 overtime win over St. Pius X and apparently that was enough momentum to upset 8-6 Dunwoody. The Hawks winning wasn't really an upset, as they were a No. 1 seed. I picked Parkview to win because the Hawks backed into the playoffs on a four-game losing streak, which was preceded by an 11-game win streak.
  • Notable second round matchups include No. 7 Cambridge and No. 3 North Gwinnett, No. 8 Etowah at No. 4 Centennial and No. 5 Johns Creek at No. 1 Lambert.

Notes

  • Like on the boys' side, I missed two games here. The Brookwood Lady Broncos beat North Paulding and the North Gwinnett Lady Bulldogs beat Northgate. None of the four teams involved are ranked and in the grand scheme, there's probably nothing too shocking or bracket-busting about the teams that advanced. The Lady Bulldogs are just a season removed from a trip to the semifinals but have a 9-9-1 record this year. The Lady Broncos eliminated a North Paulding team that's been eliminated in the first round in each of the last two seasons.
  • Notable Round 2 matchups include No. 3 West Forsyth at No. 6 Mill Creek, No. 9 Northview at No. 10 Alpharetta, No. 7 Walton at No. 8 Centennial and No. 5 Johns Creek at No. 1 Milton.

Check back Friday for a look at the A-5A playoffs.
