Lacrosse in brief: Week 7

ajc.com

Each week, we’ll take a look at four teams of the state’s top teams — two from the boys’ side, two from the girls — and see how they’re doing at this point in the season.

Here are the latest AJC rankings. Now, let's move on to the four featured teams.

Centennial Knights (11-1)
Upcoming matches: Off this week
Notes: The 6A-7A No. 3 Knights are enjoying spring break after making it through the first half with just one loss, which came 15-4 at the hand of top-ranked Lambert. They have wins over North Carolina's Apex, Washington D.C.'s Bishop O'Connell and A-5A's No. 1 Lovett and No. 7 Starr's Mill. They'll resume play on April 9 when they host Lakeside-DeKalb.

Kell Longhorns (8-1)
Upcoming matches: Off this week
Notes: The A-5A No. 3 Longhorns' only blemish is a 12-11 overtime loss to No. 1 Lovett. They've yet to play a ranked team outside of Lovett and have played just five teams with a winning record. They return April 10 to host No. 10 Whitefield Academy.

Walton Lady Raiders (4-3)
Upcoming matches: at Springfield (Pa.), Contestoga (Pa.) and Harriton (Pa.) April 5-7.

Notes: The 6A-7A No. 3 Lady Raiders hit the road following their off week to take on a trio of Philadelphia schools. Their record isn't flashy yet, but they've only played two in-state opponents — top-ranked Milton and A-5A's top-ranked Blessed Trinity — and were 1-1 against them, beating Blessed Trinity. They beat Florida's Bartram Trail, Ponte Vedra and Winter Park.

Kell Lady Longhorns (7-3)
Upcoming matches: Off this week

Notes: The A-5A No. 3 Lady Longhorns three losses were to No. 1 Blessed Trinity and 6A-7A's No. 2 Cambridge and No. 4 Lassiter. Only two of their wins have come against teams with winning records, both of which were unranked in Kennesaw Mountain and East Paulding. The Lady Longhorns resume play April 10 at Pace Academy.
