How the new top 10 teams fared in Week 5

Class AAAAAA

1. (1) Colquitt County (5-0)

Last week: Beat Pelham 47-7. Colquitt returned two punts and an interception for touchdowns and ran only seven plays in the first half in leading 40-0. A running clock began in the second quarter, according to the Moultrie Observer. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Lowndes (5-0)

2. (2) Camden County (5-0)

Last week: Beat Wayne County 24-7. With QB Antonio Hamilton out injured, Camden did not attempt a pass in a game for the first time since 1992, when Luther Welsh was head coach. Sophomore RB Brandon McMasters rushed for 138 yards on 13 carries. Antonio Wimbush rushed for 54 yards, made five tackles and blocked a field-goal attempt. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Valdosta (5-0)

3. (3) Lowndes (5-0)

Last week: Beat Newton 17-13. Lowndes narrowly avenged a stunning 2013 defeat, and coach Randy McPherson got his 200th victory. Lowndes was outgained 291-282 in total yards but got a monster game from Corveon White, who had four sacks and two other tackles behind the line for 41 yards in losses. 4. (4) Grayson (4-0)

Last week: Beat Parkview 13-7. Brice Chase was 15-of-27 passing for 234 yards and a touchdown. Grayson's defense had six sacks and allowed its only points after Grayson lost a fumble at its 3-yard line. Friday at Berkmar (0-4)

5. (7) Valdosta (5-0)

Last week: Beat Veterans 34-0. Valdosta returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, led 34-0 at halftime and allowed only four first downs and 76 yards in total offense. Valdosta has four shutouts, the most in a season since 2007. Next: Oct. 3 at Camden County (5-0)

6. (8) Hughes (2-1)

Last week: Off. Next: Friday at Douglas County (1-2)

7. (9) North Gwinnett (3-1)

Last week: Beat Collins Hill 42-24. North Gwinnett trailed 21-0 midway in the second quarter after Monty Horn threw three TD passes for Collins Hill. A blocked punt and score that made it 21-14 with 2:48 left in the half turned the tide. John Urzua was 20-of-33 passing for 322 yards and two touchdowns, and Joshua Imatorbhebhe had 10 catches for 177 yards. North Gwinnett had only 60 yards rushing. Next: Friday at Mill Creek (2-2)

8. (10) McEachern (2-2)

Last week: Beat Lovejoy 7-3. Bailey Hockman threw a 25-yard TD pass to T.J. Rahming with 1:09 left for the game-winner. McEachern survived four turnovers, one inside the Lovejoy 10-yard line in the final minutes. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Marietta (2-2)

9. (NR) Dacula (4-0)

Last week: Beat South Gwinnett 27-13. Dacula held South Gwinnett to 196 yards in total offense, 114 of that in the fourth quarter, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Dacula intercepted three passes, and C.J. Mayes returned one 28 yards for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead just 1:45 into the game. Next: Friday at Shiloh (1-2)

10. (5) Lovejoy (3-1)

Last week: Lost to McEachern 7-3. Lovejoy made one of three field-goal attempts. One was blocked, and another had a bad snap and hold. Next: Saturday at Mays (3-1)

Class AAAAA

1. (2) Ware County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Richmond Hill 28-0. Ware had 300 yards rushing, led by Raekwon Chatman's 86 on seven carries, and held Richmond Hill to 98 yards in total offense. Next: Friday vs. Bradwell Institute (0-3)

2. (4) Creekside (4-1)

Last week: Beat Stephenson 28-14. Bricen Terry rushed for 215 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries in a Region 6 crossover game between ranked teams. Creekside stopped Stephenson on a goal-line stand in the third quarter, then drove 98 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-14. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Mays (3-1)

3. (5) Kell (4-0)

Last week: Beat Forsyth Central 28-14. Cameron Rosendahl was 15-of-19 passing for 251 yards and two touchdowns, one a 73-yarder to break a 14-14 tie with 2:35 left in the third quarter. Kell has won 21 consecutive regular-season games. Next: Friday vs. Cambridge (3-0)

4. (6) Coffee (3-1)

Last week: Beat Glynn Academy 28-7. Coffee had more than 200 yards both rushing and passing. Sophomore RB Demetrius Davis rushed for 102 yards on 19 carries. QB Tyree Paul was 16-of-21 passing for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Next: Friday at Effingham County (3-1)

5. (NR) Jones County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Northside of Warner Robins 45-37. Jones County is ranked for the first time since 2001 and 4-0 for the first time since 1999. Bradley Hunnicutt was 17-for-27 passing for 359 yards and two touchdowns, both to Davian Daniel, who had seven catches for 166 yards. Jones County put up 561 yards in total offense and averaged 11.5 yards per play. Jones County had been 0-5 against Northside, which entered the game ranked No. 1. Next: Friday vs. Grovetown (2-2)

6. (1) Northside-Warner Robins (3-1)

Last week: Lost to Jones County 45-37. Northside put up 313 total yards and 21 first downs but suffered its most points allowed since losing to Tift County 46-27 in 1993. Willie Jordan rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns, but Northside struggled passing, missing on 11 of 18 attempts. Next: Friday vs. Greenbrier (3-1)

7. (3) Stephenson (2-2)

Last week: Lost to Creekside 28-14. Leading 14-7 in the third quarter, Stephenson failed to score on a first-and-goal at the 1, then gave up a 98-yard scoring drive. A fumble on offense and a muffed punt made for a disastrous fourth quarter. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Miller Grove (3-1)

8. (7) Carver-Columbus (3-1)

Last week: Beat Troup 43-41. Jawon Pass was 13-of-14 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns, and WR Nate Barley caught nine passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, but Carver didn't have things in hand until Isham Alexander's 1-yard run with 7:42 left made it 43-27. Alexander scored three touchdowns and rushed for 126 yards. Next: Thursday at Columbus (2-2)

1. (1) Buford (4-0)

Last week: Beat White County 42-10. Buford gave up runs of 65 and 64 yards to White County's triple-option offense but otherwise dominated and won its 29th consecutive game (or 32nd straight not counting two forfeits in 2012). Next: Oct. 3 at Chestatee (1-2)

2. (2) Sandy Creek (4-0)

Last week: Off. Next: Friday vs. Auburn, Ala. (1-3)

3. (3) Griffin (4-0)

Last week: Beat Hampton 50-6. Griffin got good work from both of its quarterbacks. Anforne Stroud was 7-of-9 passing for 147 yards. Tylan Morton was 10-of-15 for 121 yards. Next: Saturday vs. Jonesboro (1-3)

4. (4) Marist (4-0)

Last week: Beat Stone Mountain 56-0. Marist allowed just 130 yards in total offense. Spencer Taylor scored on runs of 21 and 59 yards in the first quarter, when Marist opened a 28-0 lead. Next: Friday vs. Redan (0-4)

5. (6) Cartersville (2-1)

6. (7) Thomas County Central (2-1)

Last week: Beat Bainbridge 20-10. Thomas Central held Bainbridge to two first downs and 61 total yards (only 1 yard after Bainbridge's opening drive), but didn't take a lead until Kelias Williams' 4-yard TD run made it 13-10 with 1:17 left in the third quarter. 7. (8) Woodward Academy (3-1)

Last week: Beat Clarkston 57-0. Elijah Holyfield rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries and scored another touchdown on a 99-yard kickoff return. CB Marcus Hyatt returned an interception 77 yards for a score. Next: Friday at Eagle's Landing Christian (0-5)

8. (9) Cairo (3-1)

Last week: Beat Westover 20-19. Cairo won in overtime when Westover missed an extra point off a bad snap. Westover had scored on a 32-yard yard TD pass on fourth down. Jeremiah Hill scored Cairo's overtime touchdown on a 3-yard run. Next: Friday vs. Worth County (1-1)

9. (10) Whitewater (3-1)

Last week: Beat Eagle's Landing Christian 21-7. After a scoreless first half, Whitewater scored on three long TD runs, two by Christian Wofford and one by Ian McIntyre. Next: Oct. 3 vs. Mount Zion, Jonesboro (0-3)

10. (NR) Eagle's Landing (4-0)

Last week: Beat Spalding 26-16. Antonio Gibson caught 10 passes for 93 yards, rushed for 14 yards and threw a 43-yard TD pass for Eagle's Landing. Mac McDonald was 20-of-30 passing for 161 yards. Next: Friday vs. Eastside (2-2)

1. (1) Washington County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Burke County 47-27. QB A.J. Gray had another big night, rushing for 261 yards and four touchdowns and passing for 154 and two TDs. Next: Friday vs. Glenn Hills (0-4)

2. (2) Calhoun (4-0)

Last week: Beat North Murray 57-8. Olico Dennis rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns on five carries. Kaelan Riley was 8-of-11 passing for 180 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 81 yards in limited action. Next: Friday at Ringgold (3-1)

3. (3) Blessed Trinity (4-0)

Last week: Beat Jackson-Atlanta 42-0. Blessed Trinity held Jackson to 89 yards in total offense and returned two interceptions for touchdowns. Next: Friday at Douglass (2-2)

5. (5) Peach County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Spencer 35-6. Spencer was stopped at its 7-yard line on a fake punt on the game's first possession. Peach County scored on that short drive, then got a 33-yard TD return of an interception three plays later, and things didn't improve for Spencer. Next: Friday at Rutland (1-3)

6. (6) Westminster (4-0)

Last week: Beat Towers 40-14. Westminster led 26-0 at halftime and was never threatened, although total yardage was surprisingly close (294-282). Sophomore DT Cortez Alston had three tackles for losses and forced a fumble. QB Rankin Woley was 9-of-16 passing for 95 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards and a score. 7. (7) Westside-Macon (4-0)

Last week: Beat Central-Macon 35-7. Marcell Williams threw three TD passes after the game was tied 7-7 in the third quarter. Central had less than 200 yards of total offense and nine first downs. Next: Thursday vs. Kendrick (2-2)

8. (8) Central-Carrollton (4-0)

Last week: Beat Fayette County 10-0. Central was held to six first downs and completed only one of eight pass attempts but won with defense. Kirey Thompson had two sacks and another tackle for a loss. Next: Friday at Landmark Christian (4-0)

9. (9) Hart County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Oglethorpe County 74-12. Sean Harper returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown in a five-touchdown first quarter. Next: Friday at Elbert County (3-1)

2. (2) Fitzgerald (4-0)

Last week: Beat Macon County 41-34. Fitzgerald rushed for 411 yards - 254 by Gerald Morgan on 35 carries and 131 by J.D. King on 24. Morgan scored five touchdowns, including the one that broke a 34-34 tie in the fourth quarter. Macon County's Devontae Hudson had six catches for 241 yards and three touchdowns. 3. (3) Vidalia (4-0)

Last week: Beat McIntosh County Academy 43-0. QB Jordan Black scored three touchdowns, one on a punt return, as Vidalia won without completing a pass. MCA, Vidalia's second consecutive shutout victim, was held to 185 yards in total offense. Next: Friday vs. Groves (3-1)

4. (4) Lovett (3-2)

Last week: Beat B.E.S.T. Academy 42-28. QB Willie Candler was 12-of-18 passing for 131 yards and rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns, the third that gave Lovett a 35-20 lead with 11:40 left. Jay Harris ran for 103 yards on 13 carries. Lovett survived Deshawn Waller's 254-yard rushing game. Lovett committed only one penalty and no turnovers. Next: Friday vs. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate (1-3)

5. (5) Benedictine (2-1)

Last week: Beat Bacon County 47-0. John Kennedy rushed for 108 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Zach Scott's 55-yard interception return gave Benedictine a 26-0 lead in the second quarter. Next: Friday vs. Bryan County (2-1)

6. (6) Brooks County (2-2)

Last week: Beat. Perry 22-3. Brooks had good balance as QB Demontay Jones was 5-of-10 passing for 152 yards and a touchdown and RB Ahmad Brown rushed for 110 yards on 12 carries. Exavius Medlock had three catches for 132 yards, scored a touchdown and intercepted a pass. Perry was held to 6 yards rushing and missed on 27 of 43 pass attempts. Next: Friday at Pelham (3-1)

Last week: Beat Glenn Hills 53-10. Jefferson County broke 50 points for the first time since 2009. Next: Friday vs. Screven County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Ola 41-27. FB Juan Tucker rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries, and RB Noah Eure had 118 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. Next: Friday vs. Alcovy (0-4)

9. (7) B.E.S.T. Academy (2-2)

Last week: Lost to Lovett 42-28. Deshawn Waller rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries and totaled 373 all-purpose yards. 10. (NR) Darlington (3-1)

Last week: Beat Bowdon 24-19. Darlington coach Tommy Atha got his 100th victory. Trey Edge rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. His 21-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter that gave Darlington a 22-19 lead came a play after Bowdon muffed a punt. Next: Friday vs. Gordon Lee (1-3)

Class A

1. (1) Aquinas (4-0)

Last week: Beat Stratford Academy 28-27. Both teams scored four touchdowns, but Statford missed its extra-point try in the fourth quarter and led 27-21 before Aquinas rallied to win it. Ruben Garnett rushed for 208 yards on 28 carries, but Aquinas was only 3-of-10 passing. Stratford put up 390 yards rushing. Next: Friday at Mount de Sales (2-1)

2. (2) Marion County (3-0)

Last week: Beat Columbus 34-31. Marion led 34-10 in the third quarter but ran off the final 5:11 of the game after Columbus had pulled within three points with a third unanswered touchdown. Lorenzo Smothers rushed for 215 yards on 11 carries and scored on runs of 72, 26 and 70 yards. Next: Friday at Schley County (2-1)

3. (3) Calvary Day (3-0)

Last week: Beat Johnson County 9-8. Tyler Kilgore made a 35-yard field goal with 1.9 seconds left. Robert Heyward rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Next: Friday at Wheeler County (1-3)

4. (4) Mount Paran Christian (4-0)

Last week: Beat King's Ridge Christian 56-13. Mount Paran's Dorian Walker rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Next: Friday vs. Pinecrest Academy (3-0)

5. (5) Charlton County (4-0)

Last week: Beat Atkinson County 33-0. Andrew Lee rushed for 202 yards, almost all of it in the first half as Charlton County took a 26-0 lead. Atkinson County crossed midfield only twice, once on the final play of the first half, the other on the final series of the game. Next: Friday vs. Turner County (2-2)

6. (8) Hawkinsville (4-0)

Last week: Beat Brookstone 33-7. Hawkinsville outrushed Brookstone 261 to minus-1. Reginald McDonald rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Keshun Wright, Devin Adams and Royce Owens had 7.5 tackles for losses between them, and Tyrus Davis had two of Hawkinsville's four interceptions. Next: Friday vs. Central-Talbotton (2-2)

7. (7) Savannah Christian (4-0)

Last week: Beat Treutlen 50-0. Josh Chamblee rushed for 123 yards on 13 carries and was 5-of-7 passing for 117 yards. Next: Friday at Montgomery County (1-3)

8. (9) Landmark Christian (4-0)

Last week: Beat Josey 55-20. Landmark had 350 yards in total offense, most credited to Lofton Tidwell, who rushed for 82 yards and had 120 receiving. Next: Friday vs. Central-Carrollton (4-0)

9. (NR) Irwin County (2-1-1)

Last week: Beat Clinch County 47-7. Robert Moore rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, and Jakyron Young ran for 107 on nine. Irwin had 344 yards rushing. It was Clinch County's worst loss to a same-classification opponent since 1977 (Jeff Davis, 63-0). Next: Friday at Telfair County (4-0)

10. (NR) Pacelli (4-0)

Last week: Beat Greenville 35-26. Pacelli is ranked for the first time since 2007. KeyAndre Ashley rushed for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a pass reception. DeAndre Bowman rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown and intercepted two passes. Pacelli had four interceptions. Next: Friday vs. Dooly County (3-1)
