How the new top 10 teams fared in Week 2


*1. (1) Grayson (1-0)

Last week: Beat Hoover, Ala. 35-26. Leading 28-26 in the fourth quarter, and its 14-point lead nearly gone, Grayson got a 71-yard TD pass from D.J. Irons to Kenyon Jackson to settle a matchup between defending state champions. Irons was 14-of-21 passing for 211 yards and a touchdown. Ronald Thompkins rushed for 92 yards on 17 carries. Hoover entered ranked No. 9 nationally by USA Today but fell to 2-4 all-time vs. Georgia teams, 0-2 vs. Grayson, all in games played since 2008. Next: Friday vs. McEachern (0-1)

*2. (2) Colquitt County (2-0)

Last week: Beat Vista Murrieta, Cal. 26-7. Daijun Edwards rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Ty Leggett of Colquitt rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries. Vista Murrieta, ranked the No. 21 overall team in California by MaxPreps, was held to 125 yards of total offense. *3. (3) Lowndes (2-0)

Last week: Beat International School, Fla. 56-0. Lowndes returned four interceptions and a kickoff for touchdowns - all in the first quarter - during which the Vikings built a 48-0 lead. Terrell Belcher scored on interception returns of 36 and 18 yards. Patrick Brown returned an interception 65 yards for a score. Tayvonn Kyle ran an interception 31 yards and a free kick after a safety 55 yards for scores. Lowndes also scored two safeties. International School was held to minus 64-yards rushing, minus-60 yards total, and no first downs. Lowndes did not attempt a pass and ran only 15 plays from scrimmage. *4. (4) Mill Creek (2-0)

Last week: Beat Stephenson 31-13. Stephenson led 6-0 into the second quarter, but Mill Creek scored the next 31 points. Uriah Leverette rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Brady Longenecker was 13-of-18 passing for 156 yards. Mill Creek led in total yards 367-137. Next: Friday at Dacula (0-1)

*5. (5) Parkview (2-0)

Last week: Beat Shiloh 69-0. Parkview had 504 yards of total offense. Fred Payton was 14-of-17 passing for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Demetrius West rushed for 119 yards. Malik Washington had 119 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns. Next: Friday at Lowndes (2-0)

Last week: Beat Etowah 38-35. Anthony Rodriguez kicked a 32-yard field goal with 1 second left. Dillon Waye's 23-yard pass to Trey Urquhart with 10 seconds left put North Cobb in position to win it. North Cobb trailed 21-7 at halftime and led 35-21 in the fourth quarter. Christian Singleton rushed for 46 yards on 12 carries and had five catches for 77 yards. Next: Friday vs. Harrison (1-1)

Last week: Beat Peachtree Ridge 52-7. Archer stretched a 7-7 first-quarter lead to 38-7 by halftime. Carter Peavy was 14-of-23 passing for 186 yards and a touchdown. Next: Sept. 8 at Mill Creek (2-0)

*8. (9) Norcross (1-1)

Last week: Beat Collins Hill 18-10. Louis Williams (10-of-19 passing, 138 yards) threw a 9-yard TD pass to Grant Johnson with 11:40 left for a 15-10 lead, and Jake Camarda later added a 47-yard field goal. Norcross trailed in total yards 213-173, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Next: Sept. 8 vs. North Gwinnett (1-1)

Last week: Beat Brookwood 42-35. Austin Kirksey was 16-of-22 passing for 262 yards. Kendall Alford had four catches for 132 yards and a touchdown. AJC Super 11 pick Dominick Blaylock, who missed the opener with a leg injury, had seven receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. Kirksey's 29-yard TD pass to Alford with 8:27 left gave Walton a 42-28 lead. Next: Friday at Pope (0-1)

Last week: Beat Lakeside-Atlanta 54-0. Tucker led 54-0 at halftime and beat Lakeside for the 17th consecutive time. QB Travon Ford was 7-of-11 passing for 134 yards and two touchdowns. WR Josh Vann had four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 70 yards. DE Antonio Showers had two sacks and another tackle for a loss. Next: Friday at Colquitt County (2-0)

Last week: Beat Bainbridge 38-13. Jase Orndorff was 15-of-30 passing for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Shaunderious Kimbrough rushed for 89 yards on 18 carries. Ty Terrell had six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Tay Mayo had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Bainbridge RB Dameon Pierce, an AJC Super 11 pick, rushed for 174 yards on 28 carries. Next: Friday vs. Hardaway (1-1)

Last week: Lost to Rome 33-21. Justin Fields was 21-of-30 passing for 233 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the loss. He rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Next: Friday at North Cobb (2-0)

*4. (6) Coffee (2-0)

Last week: Beat Brunswick 30-13. Jameon Gaskin rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. Coffee had 344 yards of total offense, 216 rushing on 52 carries. Wade Sumner was 9-of-12 passing for 128 yards. Next: Friday vs. Ware County (0-1)

Last week: Lost to Stockbridge 9-0. Playing the No. 3 team in Class AAAAA, Mays suffered its first shutout since 2011 (vs. Marist), a streak of 64 games. Next: Friday vs. Peachtree Ridge (0-2)

*7. (8) Lovejoy (2-0)

Last week: Beat Mundy's Mill 33-14. Jordan Huntington scored two touchdowns and passed for one. Lovejoy led just 20-14 at halftime. Zion Custis, who rushed for 278 yards in the opener, was slowed by injury and ran just five times for 75 yards. Next: Saturday vs. Stockbridge (1-0)

*8. (9) Valdosta (1-1)

Last week: Beat Woodland-Stockbridge 26-0. Valdosta took a 26-0 lead when Tyler Berrian returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Virtually the rest of the game was wiped out because of weather delays. Valdosta held Woodland to 48 yards of total offense. Next: Friday vs. Wayne County (1-0)

*9. (NR) Hughes (2-0)

Last week: Beat Westlake 16-13. Backup PK Adrian Strain, playing his first season of football and attempting his first field goal, made a 34-yarder with two minutes left, and Aaron Finch then blocked Westlake's potential tying field goal from 20 yards with 30 seconds left. Chris Royalston rushed for 110 yards and scored both Hughes touchdowns, one a 95-yard kickoff return. Hughes beat Westlake, its south Fulton County neighbor, for the second season in a row. *10. (10) Northside-Warner Robins (1-1)

Last week: Beat Henry County 44-6. Daniel Neal rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, part of a 336-yard team rushing effort. Courtney Patmon had 95 yards rushing on seven carries. Next: Friday vs. Westside-Macon (1-1)

*1. (1) Rome (1-0)

Last week: Beat Harrison 33-21. Down 21-17 in the third quarter, Rome got two TD passes from Knox Kadum to Xavier Roberts (47 and 30 yards) to take control. The second TD pass was a flea-flicker with 8:02 left. Kadum was 9-of-14 passing for 197 yards. Jamius Griffin rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. DL Ja'Quon Griffin scored on a 32-yard fumble return in the first quarter. Griffin and DL Adam Anderson had two sacks each. Rome had six as a team. Next: Friday vs. Drew (1-1)

Last week: Beat Melbourne Central Catholic, Fla. 34-17. Christian Turner rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Buford is 9-0 all-time against out-of-state opponents. Next: Sept. 8 vs. International School, Fla. (0-1)

*3. (3) Stockbridge (1-0)

Last week: Beat Mays 9-0. Stockbridge had 236 yards of total offense in a defensive battle. B.J. Riley rushed for 66 yards on 12 carries. Marquez Ezzard had 20 yards from scrimmage on six touches. The shutout was the 17th in the coach Kevin Whitley era (2009-), with at least one each season. Next: Saturday vs. Lovejoy (2-0)

Last week: Beat Spalding 36-7. QB Avious Nelson was 12-of-21 passing for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Shondarious Mayes had five catches for 130 yards. Darryl Matthews rushed for 110 yards on five carries. Sylas Foster (fumble) and Ja'Luntray Hatcher (interception) scored defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Next: Friday at LaGrange (0-2)

*8. (NR) Jones County (2-0)

Last week: Beat Washington County 48-19. Jones County had 328 yards rushing on only 20 carries. Teldrick Ross (5-117-3) and Drake Bolus (12-185-2) each were over 100. Jake Lanford returned a fumble 46 yards and an interception 100 yards, both for touchdowns. Next: Sept. 8 at Locust Grove (0-1)

*9. (NR) Starr's Mill (1-0)

Last week: Beat Newnan 40-13. Starr's Mill trailed 13-6 in the first quarter but won easily and avenged a 2016 loss. Cole Gilley rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Starr's Mill is the second Fayette County school ever to get a win over new Newnan coach Chip Walker, who was 15-1 vs. fellow Fayette teams while at Sandy Creek. Next: Friday at Northgate (1-0)

*10. (NR) Carver-Atlanta (2-0)

Last week: Beat Tri-Cities 34-6. Carver held Tri-Cities to 81 yards of total offense. DL Jatavious Ponder and DE/L Solomon Mosley were in on six tackles for losses each. Octavious Battle was 12-of-17 passing for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Jo'Quavious Makes rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Quindarious Monday had three catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns, blocked a punt and had seven solo tackles. Next: Friday at Alexander (0-1)

Class AAAA

*1. (1) Cartersville (2-0)

Last week: Beat Bartram Trail, Fla. 52-45. Rico Frye's 2-yard run with 3:40 left broke a 45-45 tie. Bartram Trail had a final play at the Cartersville 12-yard line with three seconds left, but Cartersville blitzed and forced an incompletion. Cartersville led 38-10 in the second quarter and had more than 400 yards of offense in the first half before the game turned. Trevor Lawrence was 18-of-23 passing for 403 yards and five touchdowns. Frye rushed for 111 yards. Bartram Trail quarterbacks Riley Smith and Joey Gatewood were a combined 27-of-34 for 366 yards. The game was televised nationally by ESPN to showcase QB prospects Lawrence (Clemson) and Gatewood (Auburn). Next: Friday vs. Calhoun (2-0)

Last week: Beat St. Pius 35-21. Jake Smith was 13-of-20 passing for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Steele Chambers rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Ryan Davis had six catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Next: Friday at Marietta (1-0)

Last week: Beat Effingham County 14-13. Effingham missed an extra point that would've tied the game with 5:54 left, failed to cover an onside kick and didn't threaten again. Tyrek Braswell rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. Tyler Curry rushed for 89 yards, all in the second half while spelling injured Bubba Murray. Next: Friday vs. Jefferson (2-0)

*5. (5) Woodward Academy (1-0)

Last week: Beat Grady 31-0. Mike Wright was 17-of-23 passing for 242 yards and three touchdowns, all to Tahj Gary, who had four catches for 86 yards. LB Aaron Washington had eight tackles, one for a loss, and intercepted a pass. Woodward avenged a 2016 defeat and became the first team to shut out Grady since Carver of Atlanta in 2008, a streak of 96 games. Next: Friday vs. Westminster (0-2)

Last week: Beat Riverwood 50-13. Colby Wood rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries as Jefferson put up 423 rushing yards. Wood also intercepted a pass. Justin Cole had 120 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Noah Mulvey had two sacks, and Zac Corbin had an interception. Next: Friday at Thomson (2-0)

*7. (7) Marist (1-0)

Last week: Beat Lovett 31-14. Marist held Lovett to 44 yards rushing and 13-of-32 passing with four interceptions. Marist's Ellis Pearson had 88 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Chase Abshier had 85 yards passing and 65 rushing. Next: Friday vs. Baylor, Tenn. (1-1)

*8. (8) Mary Persons (1-1)

Last week: Beat Jackson 28-7. J.T. Hartage was 13-of-19 passing for 140 yards. Bralen Harvey rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries. Mary Persons held Jackson to 155 total yards and six first downs. Next: Friday vs. Washington (1-0)

*9. (9) Ridgeland (2-0)

Last week: Beat Pepperell 35-7. Ridgeland allowed 135 yards in total offense, most of that in the final minutes after the game was in hand. Jalyn Shelton rushed for 91 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. WR Stephon Walker had 103 yards from scrimmage. Next: Friday at Darlington (1-0)

*10. (10) Burke County (2-0)

Last week: Beat Statesboro 42-27. Burke took a 21-0 lead and put up 485 yards in total offense. QB William Knight (19-114-1) and RB Leon McGee (14-111-0) each rushed for more than 100 yards. QB Demari Kelly ran for 93 on nine carries. Statesboro had 386 total yards and got within 28-20. Next: Friday vs. Washington County (0-1)

Class AAA

*1. (1) Peach County (1-0)

Last week: Beat Houston County 44-14. Kearis Jackson caught a 53-yard TD pass from Antonio Gilbert and returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown, both in the second quarter, as Peach took a 30-14 lead. Houston County had 237 yards rushing but its passing game, now without Georgia freshman Jake Fromm, was only 2-of-9. Next: Friday vs. Warner Robins (2-0)

*2. (2) Greater Atlanta Christian (2-0)

Last week: Beat Westminster 41-7. Westminter didn’t have a drive longer than six plays or 32 yards until late in the fourth quarter. Sean Henderson made two 50-yard field goals, and Kyler McMichael rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Curland returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown. Next: Sept. 8 vs. Valor Christian, Colo. (1-0)

*3. (3) Cedar Grove (2-0)

Last week: Beat Southwest DeKalb 37-7. Cedar Grove held Southwest DeKalb to 83 total yards, minus-2 in the first half. LB Isaiah Ratcliff and DE Roderic Forts each had 3.5 tackles for losses and forced three fumbles between them. Forts had three sacks. Jadon Haselwood had two TD receptions. QB Xavier Dennis had two TD passes and two TD rushes. Next: Sept. 8 vs. Columbia (2-0)

*4. (4) Calhoun (2-0)

Last week: Beat Dalton 24-0. Calhoun got its first shutout victory over Dalton since 1932 and ended Dalton's streak of non-shutouts at 77. Gavin Gray was 19-of-27 passing for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Brannon Spector had seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown. LB Bailey Lester had four sacks. Next: Friday at Cartersville (2-0)

*5. (5) Crisp County (2-0)

Last week: Beat Americus-Sumter 20-18. Next: Friday vs. Turner County (2-0)

*6. (10) Dawson County (1-0)

Last week: Beat Forsyth Central 9-0. Peyton Allen made field goals of 30, 35 and 22 yards. QB Coey Watson rushed for 159 yards. RB Vaughn Clark rushed for 96. A year ago, Dawson County led Forsyth 14-9, but the game was stopped short of an official contest because of weather. Next: Friday vs. Chattooga (0-1)

*7. (8) Pace Academy (0-1)

Last week: Lost to West Forsyth 21-14. Pace scored on drives of 85 yards (12 plays) and 67 yards (16 plays) in the second half but couldn't overcome a 21-0 halftime deficit against a Class AAAAAAA opponent. Keashawn Perryman scored both Pace touchdowns. Next: Friday vs. Hapeville Charter (1-1)

*8. (NR) Jenkins (2-0)

Last week: Beat South Effingham 45-36. Jenkins took a 24-14 lead when Daniel Jordan returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, then a 38-24 lead in the fourth quarter on an 81-yard pass from Javonte Middleton to Ameen Stevens. Next: Sept. 7 vs. Liberty County (0-1)

*9. (NR) Sonoraville (1-0)

Last week: Beat Model 28-7. Sonoraville won first game under new coach Denver Pate, broke a four-game losing streak against Model and entered the rankings for the first time in its history. Patrick Moore rushed for 176 yards. Next: Friday vs. Cass (0-1)

*10. (NR) Bremen (1-0)

Last week: Beat Bowdon 30-6. Tyran Dobbs rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Bremen ended a five-game losing streak to Bowdon and entered the rankings for the first time since 2012. Next: Friday vs. Mount Paran Christian (2-0)

Last week: Lost to Thompson, Ala. 21-20. Hapeville was impressive in a loss to the third-ranked team in Alabama's Class 7A. Hapeville QB Hajj-Malik Williams was 23-for-33 passing for 329 yards and two TDs. Thompson's Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, was 31-of-42 for 329 yards and two touchdowns. His TD pass with 8:05 left gave Thompson a 21-20 lead. Hapeville had led 17-0. Hapeville WR Kivante Johnson had nine catches for 155 yards. Andunte Deverreux had six receptions for 94 yards. Next: Friday at Pace Academy (0-1)

*3. (3) Fitzgerald (1-1)

Last week: Beat Irwin County 31-6. Fitzgerald took an 18-0 lead into halftime, ran 76 plays from scrimmage and led 307-208 in total offense. Next: Friday at Camden County (1-1)

Last week: Beat Mount Pisgah Christian 62-21. RB Mason Sprinkle (140 yards on six carries) and QB Bailey Fisher (111 on 10) each went over 100 yards rushing. Fisher was 6-of-8 passing for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Rabun led 45-14 at halftime. Next: Friday at Stephens County (1-0)

Last week: Beat Thomas County Central 41-7. Thomasville won its 700th game and tied its series with its arch-rival 25-25. Carl Blackmore made a school-record 57-yard field goal. Charlie Thomas and Karey Lee each ran Thomas Central fumbles (caused by Jeremiah Powell and Jashawun Thornton) for touchdowns from midfield. Thomasville rushed for 175 yards, passed for 149. Last week: Beat Lakeside-Evans 33-0. Jefferson County put up 422 yards in total offense and won easily despite 27 penalties for 263 yards. The QB combination of Chardell Hales and Haden Jenkins went 17-for-30 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns. They rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Nikel Stone had six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Ty King had seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Next: Sept. 8 at Washington-Wilkes (1-0)

Last week: Beat Jonesboro 35-7. ELCA had 511 yards of total offense. Josh Mays rushed for 206 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Harrison Taylor had seven tackles and two sacks. Next: Friday vs. Knoxville Catholic, Tenn. (1-1)

*2. (2) Prince Avenue Christian (2-0)

Last week: Beat Riverside Military 56-13. Prince Avenue led 49-7 at halftime and led in total yards 292-53. QB Grant Roland finished 8-of-12 passing for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Two went to WR/FS Elijay "Yah-Yah" Hynes, who also had eight tackles on defense and broke up a pass. Christian Parrish had two catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. J.J. Hudson was the leading rusher with 80 yards on 10 carries. RB/LB Sam Wessinger rushed for 62 yards, scored a touchdown and had two tackles for a loss and a sack. Last week: Beat B.E.S.T. Academy 43-22. Banks Ramsey was 20-of-28 passing for 220 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Zach Peterson had 13 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown and made eight tackles. Danny O'Sullivan blocked a punt, and George Bielan recovered it for a touchdown. *4. (5) Mount Paran Christian (2-0)

Last week: Beat Fellowship Christian 26-7. Mount Paran held Fellowship to 24 yards and one first down in the first half while taking a 19-0 lead. DE Konnor Henkle had 12 tackles and a sack. Chandler Webber rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Qb Kyle Terry had 64 yards rushing, 66 passing. Mount Paran wound up with 375 yards in total offense and avenged two losses from last season, including a 45-13 decision in the quarterfinals. Next: Friday at Bremen (1-0)

Last week: Beat Gaston, Ala. 50-0. Tijai Whatley rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns on five carries and returned a punt for a touchdown. Darlington led 29-0 in the first quarter and held Gaston to 21 yards of total offense. Next: Friday vs. Ridgeland (2-0)

Last week: Beat Wilcox County 49-28. Destin Mack scored five touchdowns and rushed for 130 yards and 10 carries. Next: Sept. 8 vs. East Laurens (0-2)
