High school soccer: State tournament roundup

--McIntosh defeated Evans, 2-0, on Thursday in the first round of the AAAAA state tournament. The Chiefs have won 41 consecutive games, heading into this week’s second round. Dylan Keysar and Matt Dognazzi had goals for McIntosh, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation by National Soccer Coaches Association.

--Brookwood goalkeeper Andy Harris recorded his eighth shutout of the season in the Broncos’ 3-0 win over South Forsyth on Tuesday in the first round of the AAAAAA state tournament. No. 1 Brookwood will host Lassiter at 7 p.m., Tuesday in the second round.

--The second round of the AA state tournament will feature a rematch of last season’s championship game, when three-time defending champion Westminster visits last year’s runner-up Calhoun this week. Westminster defeated Calhoun 1-0 in last year’s title game.

--Thomasville scored 10 goals in the first half of a 10-0 mercy-rule win over East Laurens on Thursday in the first round of the AA state tournament.

--Peach County’s Alhair Rivera scored five times in the Trojans’ 8-1 win over Rockmart on Thursday in the AAA state tournament.

--Ryan Marcano scored four times in Greater Atlanta Christian’s 10-0 win over Union County on Thursday in the first round of the AA state tournament. The undefeated Spartans will host Murray County in the second round.

--South Gwinnett, a four seed out of Region 8-AAAAAA, got a second-half goal from Mohamed Bashir and upset Lambert, top seed out of Region 6-AAAAAA, Tuesday in the first round of the state tournament. South Gwinnett will face Wheeler in this week’s second round.

--Woodward Academy, ranked No. 1 in AAA, blanked East Jackson 8-0 in the first round and will host West Hall on Tuesday.
