The Woodward Academy girls have won six tournaments this spring and have their focus on the state title. The War Eagles were second in state meet a year ago after winning it all in 2016.

The War Eagles have won the Woodward Match Play at White Oak, the Brookwood Invitational at Summit Chase, the Lowndes Lady Viking Classic at Kinderlou Forest, the Maple Ridge Tournament, the East Lake First Tee tournament and the Red Terror Ryder Cup at Jekyll. The girls were second at the Athens Area Classic at the Georgia Club. The team set a tournament record with a 31-shot victory at Kinderlou.

Ayanna Habeel, Teagan Fritts, Morgan Ellison and Amelia Connor have been solid all season.

Woodward has won five state championships, been runner-up six times and have won 17 region championships, including the last three years.

Central Carroll wins Lady Trojan

Junior Ainsley Cowart of Central Carroll shot a 72 to help the Lions win the 18th annual Lady Trojan Invitational at Sunset Hills. Central shot a season-low 227 to beat Woodward Academy by nine shots. Bremen, Columbus and Blessed Trinity rounded out the top five.

Loralie Cowart shot a 74 to finish second and Morgan Collins added an 81 for the Lions.

Glynn wins Golden Isles Invitational

Host Glynn Academy battled windy conditions to win the Golden Isles Invitational at the Sea Island’s Retreat Course. The Terrors shot a 313, five shots better than Pierce County and Camden County. Gray Johnston of Glynn Academy was medalist with a 74, with freshman teammate Carson Stroud second with a 76.

Sites finalized for state meet

The sites for the state golf championships have been finalized. The 36-hole championships will be played May 21-22.

The sites are: AAAAAAA – Sunset Country Club, Moultrie (boys), Spring Hill Country Club, Tifton (girls); AAAAAA – Jekyll Island Pine Lakes (girls), Jekyll Islands Indian Mounds (boys); AAAAA – Planterra Ridge, Peachtree City (boys), Braelinn Golf Club, Peachtree City (girls); AAAA – Achasta Golf Club, Dahlonega (boys); Innsbruck Golf Club, Helen (girls); AAA – Cateechee Golf Club, Hartwell (boys and girls); AA – Applewood Golf Club, Keysville (boys), Waynesboro Country Club (girls); A Public – Double Oaks, Commerce (boys), The Preserve at Lake Oconee (girls); A Private – Georgia National, McDonough (boys), Heron Bay Golf Club, Locust Grove (girls).
