Boys Tennis: Powerhouses Westminster and Starr's Mill meet

It should be a fun match today when Westminster and Starr's Mill get together. Westminster is the defending Class AA champion and Starr's Mill is the Class AAAAA champion.

Westminster had to replace three of its starting seven players from last year's championship team, but has filled those vacancies with strong players. The Wildcats most experienced player is senior Stephen Solms, who has started since his freshman year. Sophomore John Doman moved up a spot to play No. 2 singles and senior Will Anderson is playing No. 3 after playing doubles the last two years.  The No. 1 doubles team is freshmen Josh Pinckney and Blair Nagel and the No. 2 team of Connor Hutchins and Mac Griffith.

Starr's Mill graduated three seniors off last year's 22-1 team, but return a strong group of core players. The team is led by senior Sebastian Schneider and sophomores Dubie Dubin and Shaaz Peerani. Coach Ronald Mann said what the  boys lack in experienced tournament players, they make up for with strong-character players.  Starr's Mill already has wins over St. Pius and Union Grove, the 2013 AAAAA runners-up.
