Auburn nips Columbus at Trojan Invitational
The Columbus duo of Ben Carr and Jonathan Parker finished one-two at the 19th Trojan Invitational at Sunset Hills in Carrollton, but it wasn’t good enough to derail Auburn for the team championship.
The Alabama team won its second big tournament in Georgia by shooting rounds of 300-292 for a 593. Auburn previously won the Hardaway Invitational. Davis Boon shot 148 and Garrison Guthrie shot 150 to pace the winners.
Columbus finished six shots back at 599. Carr, who competed in the U.S. Junior Amateur last summer, was medalist after rounds of 71-67 left him at 6-under 198. Parker had rounds of 71-73 and finished three shots clear of Luke Phillips of Starr’s Mill, who had rounds of 76-71.
St. Pius, behind a 148 from Jack McDonald, was third at 605, followed by Starr’s Mill (613), Darlington (623), LaFayette (633), Colquitt County (640), Carrollton (654) and LaGrange (678).
