Four Questions with Macon County coach Larry Harold

GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.

Larry Harold, Macon County

1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career?"Pete Richardson and his staff at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. After playing on several subpar high school teams, I learned what being a champion was when I got to college. A champion is not only a trophy holder at the end of the season, a champion is a mindset. A champion lives his life, walks, talks and thinks as a person of high character every day."

2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced?"Josh Holsey from Creekside. As an assistant at Riverdale, we were up at halftime on Creekside in 2011. After halftime they moved him to QB and he had TD runs of 70 and 30 yards and a 60-yard interception return for a TD." (GHSFD: Holsey started for Auburn at cornerback last season until lost with an ACL injury.)

3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach?"2011 state championship runner-up defense, Lovejoy. I have never seen a defensive front seven with that combination of size, speed, aggressiveness and athleticism. They were able to play against any formation with a seven- or eight-man box with cover 0 press corners."

4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change?"Separate private schools/magnet schools to participate in two divisions with their own championships. Two leagues of a big private league, and a small private league. In AA and AAA, private schools won over 85 percent of the championships in every sport. Just something I think would need to be addressed."
