Four Questions with Jenkins coach Tim Adams

GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.

Tim Adams, Jenkins

1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach?"Winning the region championship this year for first time at Jenkins since 1966 and winning a playoff game for the first time stick out. Those are the most recent. There have been others, but winning a football game fades as time passes. This season didn't impact me personally, not being from Jenkins, but [it was important] for what it meant to the school and community. It connects generations. It's like a homecoming in itself. Even if alumni don't attend games now or aren't in Savannah any more, it's a connection to the school again." [Jenkins defeated Savannah 21-20 on Oct. 20 in a game that ultimately decided the Region 3-AAA title, Jenkins' first region championship since 1966. The first-round victory over Dougherty was Jenkins' first playoff win in its 60-year football history. Jenkins also achieved its first 10-win season.]

2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why?"That's the toughest question. I've seen people answer that in different ways. I know a lot of good coaches, and you want them to be good men, too. I think I would say Jeff Herron. I was never on his staff and never got to work with him except being region colleagues [while Herron was at Camden County], but I always noticed his programs were well-organized and successful, and I never heard anything that would make me think I wouldn't want my son to play for him."

3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto?"Being part of Georgia Southern [as a player in 1983 and 1984], I remember Coach [Erk] Russell saying many times just 'Do right.' I didn't realize how much that carries when I was a freshman there, but I've shared that over the years with kids. That goes far outside of football. It doesn't mean you're perfect, but you aspire to do the right thing."

4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed?"I would like for the state championship game to go back to the home schools. The Georgia Dome is great, and I go watch, and it's a great atmosphere too, but when it's at a school, it personalizes it a little more. It makes it high school football."
