Cook hires Irwin County's Lindsey as football coach

Lindsey will replace Ken Cofer, who took the head coaching job at Bacon County. Lindsey and Cofer coincidentally are graduates of Paulding County High and the University of West Georgia, though they were not classmates.

Lindsey was 20-13-1 in three seasons at Irwin County, which won its first state-playoff game this past season in 11 years. Cook is a Class AA school that will move to AAA this fall. Irwin County and Cook are Tifton-area schools about 40 miles apart.

''It really seemed like a great fit for me and my family,'' Lindsey said. "They seem to have a good plan for the direction of their academic and athletic programs.''

Lindsey was Camden County’s defensive coordinator from 2005 to 2010 and was part of state-championship teams in 2008 and 2009.
