Cedar Grove moves back into Region 5 race

The No. 9 Cedar Grove Saints (5-2, 3-1) have won four region titles, the most recent last season in Region 4. Since reclassification the Saints have been thrown into the top 10-laden Region 5 with No. 3 Westminster, No. 4 Pace Academy and No. 6 Lovett. After a 49-0 thrashing of Pace Academy, the Saints made a serious statement in Region 5 and likely will move up in the rankings.

"We played pretty good last night," said Cedar Grove coach Jimmy Smith. "I told the guys that in the last game we played, I think we should of played better."

The last game for Cedar Grove was a 28-0 thrashing of Towers.

"So we just said we are going to come out as a team and play together and do our best to do our jobs," Smith said. "We were just steady all night and ran the ball pretty well."

In other key games:

-- The top-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans (7-1, 4-0) won their fifth game in a row, 49-21 against Lumpkin County. Stanford commitment Davis Mills was 7-for-10 passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for one touchdown. Trey Morrison returned a kick 97 yards for a touchdown. The Spartans have won five consecutive games by more than 20 points and seem to be heading for another region championship.

-- The No. 2 Peach County Trojans (6-1, 3-0) rolled over Rutland (2-6, 1-3), 45-0. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 93-0 in the last two outings and remain undefeated in Region 4 play. Jackson (6-2, 4-0) looks to be the biggest threat for the Trojans. The two teams play on November 4th.

-- The No. 3 Westminster Wildcats defeated McNair (3-4, 1-3) 55-6 and will carry the momentum into next week's game against the No. 6 Lovett Lions (5-2, 3-1). The Lions defeated Redan (2-5, 1-3), 46-26. With four top-10 teams in the mix for Region 5, it's hard to place a finger on the top contender.

-- No. 7 Crisp County moved to 7-0 after winning its first Region 1 game against Monroe (2-4, 0-2), 28-14. Looking forward, the Cougars only face one team with a winning record and could be a lock for the Region 1 title, their first since 1995.

-- No. 8 Liberty County faced No. 10 Appling County Saturday night.
