Cedar Grove is back in the semifinals and the Saints went on the road to do it.
No. 6 Cedar Grove took down No. 4 Calhoun 47-21, keeping the Yellow Jackets out of the semifinals for only the second time in nine years.
There were no real upsets in the third round of the Class AAA playoffs. No. 2 Peach County eliminated defending state champion and No. 3-ranked Westminster 27-17, No. 1 Greater Atlanta Christian bounced No. 7 Liberty County 44-28, and No. 5 Crisp County defeated Pierce County 56-21.
In the semifinals, Greater Atlanta Christian will travel to Peach County and Cedar Grove will hit the road to Crisp County. The winners meet in the championship game.
Cedar Grove 47, Calhoun 21: Cedar Grove quarterback Jelani Woods threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns and Grant Walker rushed for 156 yard and one touchdown. Calhoun quarterback Gavin Gray completed 25 of 36 passes for 339 yards.
Greater Atlanta Christian 44, Liberty County 38 3OT: Davis Mills threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Trent Fowler to give the Spartans a win in triple overtime. Mills completed 22 of 37 passes for 313 yards and five touchdowns. Harrison Sloan caught seven passes for 114 yards and three touchdowns. Liberty quarterback Jaalon Frazier completed 14 of 29 passes for 152 yards and ran for 66 yards. Receiver Richard LeCounte had three catches for 61 yards and ran nine times for 40 yards.
Peach County 27, Westminster 17: Peach County quarterback Antonio Gilbert ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to put the Trojans in the semifinals. Gilbert scored on runs of 5 and 1 yards and connected with Devonte Howard and Kearis Jackson for touchdowns. Westminster scored on a 5-yard pass from Ward Croft to Truman Jones and a 61-yard pass from Croft to Joe Egan. Wesminster’s Charlie Ham kicked a 43-yard field goal.
Crisp County 56, Pierce County 21: Crisp County is in the semifinals for the first time since 1995. The Cougars have never been undefeated this late in the season; they started the season 11-0 in 1980 before losing to Woodward Academy in the quarterfinals.
