Cartersville to hire Carrollton offensive coordinator

Carrollton offensive coordinator Joey King is the choice to be Cartersville’s next head coach, pending school board approval Thursday afternoon.

King, a Cedartown native, was on the Carrollton staff of Rayvan Teague the past six seasons, during which the Trojans made state final appearances in 2010 and 2013. Teague retired from coaching after the past season and was replaced by Ware County head coach Ed Dudley.

King also has been an assistant at Jacksonville State, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers, and Sonoraville High, where he coached quarterbacks and running backs. He graduated Carson-Newman, where he played football, in 2005.

King will replace Frank Barden, who took the head coaching job at Stephens County. Cartersville was 154-58-1 in 18 seasons under Barden, including 11-1 last season.
