AA blog: What to watch this weekend

Editor's note: This was written assuming team schedules move forward accordingly despite weather conditions cancelling earlier games this week.

Here’s what to look for this weekend in Class AA:

• Region 4 remains one of the more competitive regions in the state, with Crawford County (9-1 in Region 4) leading Northeast Macon (7-3), Monticello (7-3) and Taylor County (6-3). Crawford County travels to Northeast on Friday before traveling to AAA’s Southwest Macon on Saturday. Northeast plays AAA’s Central Macon on Saturday. Monticello plays Macon County on Friday and Taylor County hosts region rival Putnam County (3-5) on Friday and hosts AAA’s Peach County on Saturday.

• The No. 1-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans and No. 2-ranked Vidalia Indians look to extend their undefeated records this weekend, with the Spartans (22-0) traveling to Westminster on Friday and the Indians (21-0) traveling to Jeff Davis on Friday.

• The No. 1-ranked Wesleyan Lady Wolves host Hapeville Charter on Friday in Region 6 play. The Lady Wolves (19-2, 5-0) – with a one-game lead over GAC – defeated last-place Hapeville Charter (1-15, 0-5) 77-13 on Jan. 14. No. 5-ranked GAC (17-5, 4-1) travels to third-place Westminster (2-2) on Friday.

• The No. 2-ranked Kendrick Lady Cherokees (17-0) and No. 4-ranked Pelham Lady Hornets (18-0) are the state’s only unbeaten teams on the girls’ side. The Lady Cherokees (4-0 in Region 5) travel to region rival Manchester (3-0) on Friday; The Lady Hornets (7-0 in Region 1) travel to second-place Thomasville (5-3).
