Americus-Sumter used a 33-9 win over Columbus this Thursday to secure the program’s first region title and first-ever seven-win season (7-2). The Panthers sit at the top of Region 1 with at a perfect 6-0 and will close the regular season with Carver-Columbus next Friday at home. Last year’s region champion Cairo secured the No. 2 seed with a 35-31 win over Northside-Columbus this Friday, which will be this year’s third seed.

In Region 2, Mary Persons is this year’s Region champ and West Laurens will be the No. 2 seed. Howard, Spalding and Upson-Lee are still in the hunt for the final two playoff seeds. Howard will close the year against Mary Persons and Spalding and Upson-Lee will square off to determine their own fate.

Burke County took the Region 3 crown with a 27-24 win over Thomson. The Bulldogs will take the No. 2 seed and Baldwin can secure the No. 3 seed on Friday with a win over 2-7 Cross Creek. Richmond Academy needs a win over Thomson and a Baldwin loss to get anything but the No. 4 seed.

Region 4 is far from being solidified. Woodward is in at the No. 1 seed, but Eastside, North Clayton, Salem and Henry County are still determining the final three seeds. Unless Troup can win on Friday, Cartersville will repeat as Region 5 champion. Cedartown is currently 4-1 and owns the tiebreaker over 4-1 Troup. A Cartersville victory would give Cedartown the No. 2 seed if they can defeat Chapel Hill this Friday.

Ridgeland has already clinched Region 6, but Pickens and Heritage-Catoosa will play this week in a game that should determine the No. 2 seed. Region 7 is already set entering the final week with Marist No. 1, Blessed Trinity No. 2, White County No. 3 and West Hall No. 4 in the standings.

In Region 8, St. Pius clinched its sixth region title in nine seasons on Friday. The Golden Lions are now 4-5 after opening the year 5-0 and ride a four-game winning streak that produced a perfect 4-0 region record. Jefferson survived Stephens County 27-24 on Friday and can clinch the No. 2 seed with a win over Oconee County in its season finale. Oconee County can jump the Dragons for No. 2 with a victory.
