North Carolina district considers skinny jeans ban. Students: No! No! No!

There's no point in rehashing school dress codes. They don't work and are largely focused on girls, holding them responsible to make sure boys aren't distracted by a collar-bone or shoulder.

School dress codes waste everyone's time and are inconsistently applied. No evidence suggests kids do better academically under stricter dress codes. (See my recent post on a crackdown gone wrong.)

With that said, I admire New Hanover County Schools in North Carolina for putting the question of banning skinny jeans -- unless paired with a long top -- to its students via Twitter. And I love the responses.
