Her parents left India to give her more opportunities. Now, she's planning med school.

Sunidhi Ramesh is among the Georgians interviewed for the AJC's New Americans series. She was born in India but moved to America as a toddler.

A senior at Emory University with plans to attend medical school, Ramesh talked to AJC multimedia journalist Erica Hernandez in a video interview about assimilation and forging her own identity from the two cultures that shaped her life.

Ramesh addresses the pressure to succeed, which she says comes from seeing the sacrifices her parents made to provide her and her brother greater opportunities in America.

(Ramesh has written two essays for the AJC Get Schooled blog in the past, one on gifted education and another on the pressure on students to get perfect grades.)
