At the ACC Kickoff in Greensboro, N.C., impending transfer Kenderius Whitehead received a solid endorsement from a former teammate.
N.C. State defensive end Art Norman, a senior from Stone Mountain, spoke well of Whitehead, who trained alongside Norman for the 2012 season before leaving school.
“When he came in, he was just one of those guys that just wanted to get so much extra work in, just one of those hard workers,” Norman said. “I think that’s good for him that he’s at Georgia Tech. He’s one of those guys that should have stayed probably close to home. It’s going to be good for him. He’ll definitely shock a lot of people.”
Norman remembered that Whitehead contacted Norman shortly after his arrival on campus in Raleigh, N.C., to watch game video together.
“We got pretty close when he was up here,” Norman said. “He was like my little brother.”
Whitehead is completing his schoolwork to receive his associates degree from Georgia Military College in order to be able to transfer to Tech.
Whitehead is back in metro Atlanta finishing his GMC studies with online courses, according to GMC coach Bert Williams. The summer term at the Milledgeville campus ends Aug. 5 and grades are due Aug. 7. Tech begins preseason practice July 31.
“He’s still got courses ongoing, so until he finishes there, we don’t really know what his status will be,” coach Paul Johnson said Monday in Greensboro. “He’s still got a lot of work to do.”
