JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On their second full day in north Florida, Georgia Tech players visited Naval Station Mayport and took a tour of the USS New York Thursday afternoon. The USS New York is an amphibious transport dock ship, built to carry Marines and their transportation into combat. It has both a flight deck and a well deck that opens up and can be partially submerged to allow smaller watercraft and personnel to unload into the water through a hatch at the rear of the ship.

“It was a great experience getting to see our armed forces and how all that works,” offensive lineman Will Bryan said. “Because it’s huge. I’ve never been in (a warship) before, so it was cool seeing all the different functions for it, seeing how the crew lived. It was also great getting to experience that, talk to the crew members and learn about their jobs, what they do. And it’s always great to see American heroes.”
